Close to thirty-five thousand people gathered at Canada’s National War Memorial for the National Remembrance Day Ceremony in Ottawa this year.

The poppy is worn from the last Friday in October until Remembrance Day to honour and remember those who sacrificed so much for us. Here’s how to wear your poppy while in uniform. When not in uniform, wear your poppy on your left side over your heart. We will remember them.

Remembrance Day is observed in Commonwealth countries since the First World War to honour and Remember armed forces members. In Canada, Remembrance Day is intended for remembrance for the men and women who have served and continue to serve our country during times of war, conflict, and peace; particularly the First and Second World Wars, the Korean War, and all conflicts since then in which members of the Canadian Armed Forces have participated.

To Remember those courageous men and women, The Royal Canadian Legion in collaboration with @CdnHeritage , will honour those who served with Remembrance Banners installed at Vimy Place, along Wellington and Elgin Street, and around the National War Memorial.

It was an honour to receive the First Poppy from the Royal Canadian Legion Alberta-NWT Command. The Poppy Fund helps preserve the memory of those who fought and died for Canada as well as provides support for all veterans. The Poppy Campaign starts on October 25th.

The Royal Canadian Legion’s National Poppy Campaign is just around the corner and will feature new and returning initiatives. The National Poppy Campaign officially begins on Friday, October 25th.

“We are always looking for new ways to grow our yearly campaign, and to enlarge our capacity to serve our Veterans and families,” says Berkley Lawrence, Dominion President. “This year we will have something new to share.”

Both traditional Poppy donation boxes and “Pay Tribute” tap-enabled ones will be available for donations in thousands of locations. Donors will also be able to give though the Legion’s national website. But there’s more! Next week, the Legion will unveil a brand-new collaboration that will greatly enhance the organization’s ability to distribute Poppies far and wide. Be sure to stay tuned for more details!

Today, at Dominion Convention, Jill Carleton was elected as the Dominion Treasurer. Jill holds an MBA and a CPA, CMA, and served 22 years in the Navy, including postings to HMCS Preserver and HMCS Terra Nova. She is also the Past Chair of the OSI Special Section. Congrats Jill!
