Alphabet and @Google President & CIO Ruth Porat spoke at #EEI2026 about building the AI economy responsibly through strong utility and community partnerships:
"Our view is that it's critical that we are working with all of our partners to deliver AI's upside responsibly. At Google, that means, when we show up to build, we are investing to add to energy capacity. We are investing with our partners to protect energy affordability."
Day 2 of #EEI2026 in Las Vegas started with Alphabet/@Google's Ruth Porat, @GovernorHobbs, and @FERC Commissioner @LaCerteDA discussing customer affordability and the historic investments being made to ensure grid reliability and economic growth.
Through these powerful partnerships and strategic investments, America's electric companies are powering the energy of every day.⚡
EEI President & CEO Drew Maloney joined @the535news to explain why the grid is our nation's most critical engine.
While the electric power industry is 5% of U.S. GDP, it powers the other 95% of our economy.
On the latest #ElectricPerspectivesPodcast episode, Gregory A. Beard, director of the Department of @ENERGY's Office of Energy Dominance Financing (EDF), discusses how the federal government is deploying historic levels of capital to strengthen the energy grid and support long-term reliability.
Director Beard also outlines EDF’s focus on lowering costs for customers while improving reliability and energy security, including major recent loans to electric companies and a rapid pace of capital deployment.

Can AI solve the grid's capacity problem?
Drew Maloney of @Edison_Electric says no.
“We're not going to be able to tech our way out of more generation.”
AI helps utilities operate smarter. The grid still needs more power plants.

EEI President and CEO Drew Maloney joined host Ed Crooks on @TheEnergyGang podcast to discuss rising electricity demand and the need for new generation, permitting reform, and responsible data center growth.
“In the last two years, we’ve seen demand growth double, and it will likely continue. At the end of the day, we need more generation and more steel in the ground.”
Maloney noted that the goal is to ensure existing ratepayers don’t bear the burden of new data centers, pointing to large-load agreements and the White House’s Ratepayer Protection Pledge to ensure they pay their fair share.

Also during @Axios Live, Representative @fedorchak4ND discussed ways to build new infrastructure faster. "I do think that the vertically integrated markets have some advantages because you have a regulator looking at them and helping the companies make those decisions. You also have a direct connection to the reliability issue compared to the competitive markets."
Representative @fedorchak4ND kicked off this morning’s @Axios Live session with her thoughts on America’s energy landscape and insights from her time as a leading state regulator in North Dakota. “We really aren’t transitioning, we are expanding, and we need to expand faster than we ever have in the past. We have always recognized energy plays a vital role in industry and commerce and affordability for our citizens.”
Womack also told @AxiosNick how America’s electric companies are working to meet this moment. "This campaign is talking about all the things we do as an industry and the value and benefits that we bring. This 'Energy of Every Day' campaign is making sure in this growing period, people really understand the value of electricity."
EEI Vice Chair and @SouthernCompany Chairman, President, and CEO @chriscwomack joined @Axios Live to share his thoughts on meeting rising energy demand, serving data centers, and protecting residential customers.
"When we talk about data centers, we have to make sure that they're paying their fair share. Meaning that the services they receive aren't being paid for by anyone else. ... Everything is in place to make sure we're mitigating every risk and that the cost of that isn't being borne by anyone else."
Lake also weighed in on the @WhiteHouse's new Ratepayer Protection Pledge, designed to ensure data centers and technology companies pay their fair share to access the grid. "@SouthernCompany is living out exactly what the President's Ratepayer Protection Plan is meant to be. They're building out the 24/7 energy sources that are needed and they're making sure that those companies are paying for it."
@WhiteHouse National Energy Dominance Council Senior Director of Power Peter Lake joined @Axios’ @HansNichols to discuss America's energy needs. "The demand is there from an incredibly innovative technology sector. We are doing everything possible to set them up for success, and companies like Entergy and Southern Company are rising to the occasion."
