In Texas they told me to stop at Buc-ee's for gas.
I have been to shrines. I have stood in temples that took two hundred years to build.
I was not prepared for the gas station.
There were one hundred and twenty fuel pumps.
I counted them because I did not believe them.
A man beside me was filling a truck the size of my first apartment, and he was not filling it because it was empty.
He was filling it because he was here, and here is where a man fills things.
Inside was a hall so vast I lost the horizon.
A wall of jerky. A wall of fudge I did not know the country produced.
A brisket sandwich handed to me by a man in a beaver costume.
And I want to be clear, the beaver is not a mascot.
The beaver is a saint.
The people speak of him the way my grandmother spoke of the mountain behind her house.
And the bathrooms.
I had been warned about the bathrooms and I had dismissed the warning as the pride of a loud people.
I was wrong to dismiss it.
The bathrooms are famous across the whole state and they have earned it.
I have slept in worse hotels. I nearly bowed upon entering.
A janitor was polishing the floor with the devotion of a man tending a garden he loved, and when I thanked him he said "welcome in," which I have since learned is what Texas says instead of hello, and also instead of I am glad you exist.
I went in for gas. I was inside for ninety minutes.
I came out with fudge, a shirt printed with a joke I do not fully understand, forty dollars of jerky, and a feeling I can only describe as having been to church.
I did not need any of it.
I needed all of it.
I have walked through the great cathedrals of the old world. I lit no candle there.
I lit no candle at Buc-ee's either.
But I did fill the truck.
And I understand now that in Texas, this is the same thing.
So let me get this straight.
Jake Tapper is focused on attacking my Mom.
Jared and Ivanka are building a private island paradise on Albanian protected land.
Don Jr married the daughter of Epstein’s banker, and a startup his fund backs just got a record $620M Pentagon loan.
Eric is taking an Israeli drone company public for $1.5B in the middle of a war with Iran that nobody wanted.
And I know: “But what about your paintings, Hunter?”
Please.
As President, I would read 10 letters a day sent to me by ordinary Americans. At the Obama Presidential Center, we’ll have some of the letters I read — and responded to — every night. I still get emotional reading them, and it’s one of my favorite exhibits.
This is a post I never thought I would have to make, but our beloved communities deserve to know. My brother, @Kon_zetsu, has passed away. He was our whole world and now a giant piece of it is missing.
Please check on your loved ones and take depression seriously. You never know what will be your last moment with them.
Life can change in a second. The world you know disappears forever. Nothing is guaranteed, not time, not long nights spent together gaming and laughing, not the people you love. So please love louder, appreciate deeper, make your love known, because what feels so normal today could be something you desperately wish for tomorrow.
The Afroman Trial.
-Cops raid Afromans house for bullshit reasons.
-Steal money, break his door, fuck his house up.
-No criminality found whatsoever, no charges at all pressed on Afroman.
-Afroman spends the next 3 years making songs that make fun of all the officers involved by name, even using footage of the raid from his own CCTV cameras.
-Songs had titles like "Randy Walters is a son of a bitch" and "Lick Em Low Lisa" accusing one of the officers of being a lesbian and sleeping with the other officers wives.
-During the raid one officer looked like he was about to eat some lemon pound cake sitting on Afromans counter, Afroman made a whole album calling the officer fat.
-The cops get mad and file a lawsuit for defamation.
-Afroman turns up to court in a whole American flag suit.
-Officers performatively mald and cry while listening to the songs really trying to oversell how badly the songs upset them.
-One officer was suing because Afroman made a whole song about him saying he was fucking the officers wife. When the officer was asked if Afroman was really fucking his wife, he said "I don't know". Nuking his own case and establishing that there is a non-zero chance that Afroman might actually be fucking his wife.
-As his only witness for the trial, Afroman brought a deputies EX FUCKING WIFE.
-The jury ruled completely in favour of Afroman.
This entire thing has been a great win for free speech and absolutely fucking hilarious.
Last night, CBS refused to air Stephen Colbert’s interview with Texas Democrat James Talarico after pressure from Trump. Colbert addressed the issue with his audience and released the clip online anyway.
RETWEET to thank Colbert for standing up for free speech!
The girl on the right was murdered by a criminal who is now in prison.
The guy on the left was murdered by government agents who have not even lost their jobs.
my therapist told me this and it hit me: “healing is so hard because it is a constant battle between your inner child who is scared and just wants safety.... your inner teenager who is angry and just wants justice.... and your current self-who is tired and just wants peace."
Diese amerikanische Regierung, die es rechtfertigt, dass wehrlose Demonstranten auf offener Straße ermordet werden, kritisiert die Meinungsfreiheit in Europa.
Andrew Cuomo’s campaign just posted — and quickly deleted — this AI-generated ad depicting “criminals for Zohran Mamdani.”
Features a Black man in a keffiyeh shoplifting, an abuser, a trespasser, a trafficker, a drug dealer, and a drunk driver all declaring support for Mamdani.
BREAKING: Legendary superstar Ariana Grande ignites a war with Donald Trump by blasting MAGA world and asking them if their lives have "gotten better" as grocery prices skyrocket and "widespread suffering" unfolds.
She was just getting warmed up — and the White House quickly hit back...
“I want to check in with trump voters. I have one very genuine question: it’s been 250 days. now that immigrants have been violently torn from their families and communities have been destroyed, now that trans people have been blamed for virtually everything and live in fear, now that free speech is on the brink of collapse for us all — has your life gotten better?” read the message reshared to the singer's 373 million followers on Instagram. The message was originally written by podcaster Matt Bernstein.
“Have your groceries gotten cheaper?" the post continued. "Has your health insurance premium gone down? Has your work/life balance improved? Can you take a vacation yet? Are you happier? Has the widespread suffering of others paid off for you in the way he promised it would, or are you still waiting?”
The answer to the question, of course, is a resounding "no." Trump voters were gullible enough to believe that they were voting for a new "Golden Age." Instead, they've been dragged into a MAGA Dark Age as Trump's tariffs destroy the global economy and skyrocket inflation while his "big, beautiful bill" slashes $1 trillion from Medicaid and funnels even more wealth to the super-rich.
Grande has criticized Trump in the past. In June, she shared a photo of a sign that read: “Could someone explain which crimes get you deported and which ones get you elected President? It’s so confusing.”
This time, the celebrity-obsessed Trump administration decided to hit back with a message that made reference to some of Grande's biggest hits.
“Save your tears, Ariana. Because President Trump’s actions ended Joe Biden’s inflation crisis and are bringing in trillions in new investment,” White House Deputy Press Secretary Kush Desai said in a statement to Entertainment Weekly. “He even signed an executive order just like magic that paved the way for the FTC to crack down on Ticketmaster for ripping off Ariana Grande’s concert-going fans. Get well soon, Ariana!”
Notably, Desai didn't address the meat of Grande's post for the simple reason that she can't. Grocery prices are skyrocketing, health insurance is out of control, and people are struggling to survive more than ever. A few tweaks to Ticketmaster won't change that.
Please retweet and ❤️ to thank Ariana Grande for speaking the truth!
Trump’s teleprompter broke.
He told every other nation they are going to hell.
He bragged about violating international law.
He blamed climate change on immigrants.
He complained about the wind not blowing enough.
And made a plug for his campaign hats.
What a disgrace.
Let’s make sure everyone understands the facts with Kimmel.
As the right is trying to paint this as “at-will” termination.
-Nextar the parent company of Kimmel’s show is seeking FCC approval for a merger.
-Kimmel made comments about Trump on Monday night (months after Trump openly said he wanted to get Kimmel fired next)
-Reporting is that Trump had the FCC lean on Nextar over these comments.
-Apparently they expressly used the line “we can do this the easy way, or the hard way”
-Multiple executives at the network have on background said they “had no issue with Kimmel’s statements but the Trump threat loomed” referring to the merger.
This was *NOT* a network dissatisfied with Kimmel.
This was *NOT* a network embarrassed or horrified by what Kimmel said.
This was *NOT* a network that thought he was unfunny, or underperforming.
This was *NOT* a company freely choosing to fire an employee.
This was expressly the federal government weaponizing federal departments, in retribution for someone being critical of the President.
This is LITERALLY what the 1st Amendment exists for.
It does not protect you from private actions by private entities.
It protects you from actions by the government to censor your speech.
Whether brazen and direct, or through coercion and threat.
This is not about if Kimmel was offensive or not.
This is about speech.
Charlie Kirk was just assassinated, that’s tragic, full stop.
But let’s not rewrite the man’s record. He publicly opposed the Civil Rights Act. He mocked George Floyd. He said he’d fear flying with Black pilots and vowed to force his daughter to carry a pregnancy even after rape.
You can mourn the death and still tell the truth.
So much disinformation on this site tonight in the wake of the horrific Kirk murder, with conservatives cynically suggesting that all of the political violence in this country comes from the left.
In fact it’s the opposite. Here are the facts for those with short memories:
The man who targeted and killed Democratic state Rep Melissa Hortman was a Trump supporter.
The man who targeted the home of Dem Governor Josh Shapiro was a Trump supporter.
The men who wanted to hang Mike Pence on Jan 6th were Trump supporters.
The man who targeted and killed the son of Obama-appointed District Judge Esther Salas was a Trump supporter.
The man who tried to kidnap Nancy Pelosi and assaulted her husband was a Trump supporter.
The men who were convicted trying to kidnap Dem Governor Gretchen Whitmer were Trump supporters.
The man who sent pipe bombs to the homes of Obama and Biden was a Trump supporter.
There is no equivalent or even similar list of Obama or Biden supporters who have carried out similar murders, attempted murders, or violent attacks.
