Creating a neighborhood isn’t just about housing—it’s about building parks, trails, and public spaces where life happens. This is what Toronto needs more of.
Public spaces that invite play—whether through playgrounds, green spaces, bmx parks or tennis courts—build stronger communities. Let’s make room for joy in urban design! 🌳🎾🚲
Is it just me, or did a Globe and Mail Architect critic just argue that adding a new community on unused city land is a "dumb idea" just because there are "nearby house neighbourhoods" that can grow instead? Am I misunderstanding something or this sentiment just nuts?
@QuickintheSix @FutureModelTO This project is about reorganizing the wasted unused space next to the gardiner to create a better waterfront. More park space. More restaurants. And yes, more housing. All possible by moving lakeshore blvd north of where it is located today
@TransitPlanner That map you are referring to shows what exists today, pointing out various public transit routes near the site. Perhaps better schedules for the streetcars are warranted, but the lines are in close proximity to the site nevertheless
@redmcgraw1 No that would be quite unpleasant (though that is exactly how the mirabella condos function today). The proposal is to have the entire masterplan south of a new lakeshore blvd road. The proposal is better described on the website www.parkshoreto:com
@TransitPlanner East of Parkside is the king/ronces/queen/queensway intersection. 2 streetcar lines to choose from (501 and 504) taking you downtown or north to the Bloor subway line.
@redmcgraw1 The blvd would shift next to the gardiner. And then the land south of that (but north of the current park) would become new useable space. Diagram here of the ‘green’ being untouched, but restructuring how the land in red, orange and yellow is being used.
@alexbozikovic I am also starting to wonder the level of understanding you have on the proposal. This is about an opportunity to utilize unused city owned land. Is this not worth a discussion? Incase you haven’t seen, the proposal is outlined here: https://t.co/46mObHMTH5
@mark_dowling@Stretchedwiener@FutureModelTO It turns out the space between lake shore blvd and the Gardiner is quite large. That, along with removing the wide median between east/westbound and relocating the surface level parking lots makes this all possible. Check out https://t.co/wVT4ERPoJO to see more 😃
@draymaker@FutureModelTO Do u feel like highrises don’t belong in Toronto? The max building height was determined using a 45 degree angular plane from the edge of High Park to ensure minimal shadowing on the park
Someone virtually threw tomato's at this (or at me?) today... happy to see people are so passionate about the project! 😆 In any case, big thanks to @FutureModelTO for taking the time to put this post, massing model, and visualization together!
A look at the visionary masterplan for ‘Parkshore’ by Brent Haynes @B_W_Haynes - a mixed-use community that reimagines the waterfront on Toronto’s West Side.
