Steady Progress as Zango–Asibitin Yara–Musawa Road Nears Completion in Kaduna South

Asphalt work is steadily progressing on the Zango Road to Asibitin Yara and Musawa Road corridor in Kaduna South Local Government Area, currently being reconstructed and upgraded under the leadership of Uba Sani.

It will be recalled that Governor Uba Sani performed the groundbreaking ceremony for this important road project on 12th September 2025. With work now at an advanced stage, the project is expected to be completed in the coming days, further improving connectivity and easing movement for residents and commuters within Kaduna South and adjoining communities.

I have deliberately been reposting and commenting on posts from Governor @UbaSaniUS’s handle and one thing has stood out clearly over the past couple of weeks that the Governor has been continuously commissioning completed projects across virtually all parts of Kaduna State. In all fairness, this is commendable, especially as most of these projects are people-oriented and directly impact the daily lives of citizens.

One of the most recent is the commissioning of the 35-kilometre asphaltic road linking Gadar Gayan, Gwaraji, Wusar and Kujama Junction connecting Igabi, Kajuru and Chikun Local Government Areas.

I told the Governor that I am planning another visit to Kaduna for project tours. I did a similar tour last year and witnessed firsthand how genuinely happy the beneficiaries of these projects were. I would truly love to see that again.

It was with a profound sense of honour and responsibility that I commissioned the 22-kilometre asphaltic road running from Pambeguwa through Kahuta to Kauru, complete with a three-span water bridge linking Kubau and Kauru Local Government Areas. This project stands as a tangible expression of our administration’s resolve to deliver infrastructure that is purposeful, responsive, and anchored in the lived realities of our people. Its completion affirms a governing philosophy rooted in foresight, accountability, and outcomes that endure.

Since assuming office, we have embarked on an ambitious programme of road construction, initiating 140 projects covering more than 1,335 kilometres across Kaduna State’s three senatorial zones. This particular road is of exceptional strategic value. It connects Kubau and Kauru Local Government Areas, bridges Zones One and Three, and opens vital access for no fewer than 46 farming communities that, since the 1970s, have endured isolation from markets, healthcare, and educational opportunities. Today, that long wait has ended.

It was with a heavy yet hopeful heart that I visited our courageous brothers and sisters from Kurmin Wali at the Kaduna State Women and Children’s Shelter, where they are receiving medical care and psychosocial support after their return from the harrowing grip of banditry. The encounter was deeply moving, a solemn reminder of the cost of insecurity, and at the same time a testament to the resilience of our people. I am encouraged by the positive response to treatment and confident that, in due course, they will be medically and psychologically certified fit to reunite with their families and reclaim the rhythms of normal life.

Despite their ordeal, the survivors received me with visible warmth and optimism. Their expressions of gratitude to the Kaduna State Government, coupled with their determination to put this painful experience behind them, spoke volumes about their strength of character and enduring hope.

Our duty does not end with care and compassion. The Kaduna State Government remains steadfast in working closely with security agencies to secure the release of those still in captivity and ensure their safe return. In furtherance of this resolve, I have made a strong and compelling case to the Office of the National Security Adviser, the Honourable Minister of Defence, and the Chief of Defence Staff for the establishment of a military base in Kurmin Wali. This critical step will significantly enhance security in the area and its environs, affirming our unyielding commitment to protect lives, restore peace, and uphold the dignity of every citizen of Kaduna State.

Agriculture lies at the heart of our growth agenda, and this corridor is a vital artery for productivity. It strengthens agricultural value chains, supports our farmers, and reinforces Kaduna State’s leadership in ginger production, accounting for nearly 80 percent of national output. The branch leading to Matsirga Waterfalls will further stimulate tourism, invigorate local enterprise, and broaden livelihood opportunities for surrounding communities.

I am deeply encouraged by the commendations of National Assembly members, traditional rulers, and community leaders, who acknowledged that this project has ended years of hardship, restored peace and stability, enabled farmers to return to their fields without fear, and revived long-abandoned projects. Their renewed confidence in governance affirms our governing ethos: inclusivity, fairness, and justice. We remain resolute in our belief that every son and daughter of Kaduna State deserves equal consideration, regardless of geography, faith, or ethnicity.

It was with profound fulfillment that I beheld the joy and quiet excitement radiating from our people as I commissioned the 23-kilometre road stretching from Madauchi to Kafanchan through Madakiya, including the spur to the iconic Matsirga Waterfalls, thereby linking Jema’a and Zangon Kataf Local Government Areas. For Zangon Kataf, one of the twelve local governments areas in the state that, for over twelve years, had not benefited from a single completed kilometre of road; this moment signifies more than the laying of asphalt. It marks the restoration of dignity, inclusion, and long-deferred justice.

This road is both strategic and transformative. It connects critical communities within the Bajju Chiefdom, offers a reliable alternative to the Zonkwa–Samaru–Kagoro axis, and reduces travel time between Kafanchan and Zonkwa by nearly half. Since assuming office, our administration has initiated approximately 140 road projects covering 1,335 kilometres across Kaduna State, with 66 already completed. Each project is deliberately conceived to unlock economic potential, close historic connectivity gaps, and weave our diverse communities into a shared future of opportunity.

It is with a profound sense of relief, gratitude to God Almighty, and quiet reverence that I welcome our resilient brothers and sisters of Kurmin Wali to Sir Kashim Ibrahim House, following their safe return from the shadow of captivity. Today, Kaduna State breathes easier. I am pleased to confirm, with solemn assurance, that no member of the community remains in bondage. Every abducted soul has been returned to the embrace of home.

Of the 183 persons taken from the community and livelihoods, 11 returned earlier bearing injuries, visible testimonies of their ordeal. They received immediate medical attention and were reunited with their families. Now, we receive the remaining 172. Already, 83 are undergoing medical treatment and psychosocial support, while the newly returned 89 will immediately receive the same comprehensive care, ensuring not merely survival, but restoration of body, mind, and dignity.

I have been deeply moved by the courage of these returnees: by their steadiness of spirit, their refusal to surrender hope, and their resolve to rebuild their lives. Their expressions of gratitude; to the Kaduna State Government and to our security agencies, are humbling, and stand as a reminder of the sacred trust between the state and its people.

My dear brothers and sisters, citizens of Kaduna State, and fellow Nigerians,

As we draw the curtain on the year 2025 and welcome the dawn of a new year filled with promise, I extend warm greetings and sincere goodwill to you all. Above all, I give thanks to God Almighty for His abiding grace, protection, and guidance over our state and nation. I am profoundly grateful to the people of Kaduna State for your trust, love, cooperation, and collective resolve, which made 2025 a year of peace, stability, and steady progress.

The year we leave behind was not without its challenges. Economic pressures and security concerns tested our endurance, but we stood firm: united by faith, strengthened by resilience, and inspired by hope. Together, we demonstrated once again that Kaduna State draws its greatest strength from its diversity, its unity of purpose, and the unbreakable spirit of its people.

Over the past years, our administration has remained deliberate and unwavering in restoring peace and stability across Kaduna State. Since 2023, our state has recorded zero violent conflict; an achievement anchored on our home-grown Kaduna Peace Model, which prioritises dialogue, community engagement, early-warning systems, and coordinated security response. For us, peace is not merely the absence of violence; it is the foundation upon which trust, development, and shared prosperity are built.

With peace restored, life has returned to normalcy across our communities. Farmers are back on their farmlands, children have returned to schools, markets are thriving, and families once displaced by fear are rebuilding their lives with dignity and renewed hope.

In 2025, we pursued governance with discipline, transparency, and compassion. Kaduna State ranked among the top three performing states nationally in independent assessments and retained its position as Nigeria’s number one state on the Transparency and Integrity Index for the second consecutive year. Our improved international standing reflects renewed global confidence in our reforms and affirms a simple truth: progress is most sustainable when built on integrity.

At the heart of our development agenda is the wellbeing of our people. We invested heavily in healthcare by revitalising hospitals and primary healthcare centres, deploying modern equipment, recruiting and motivating health workers, and more than doubling health insurance coverage. The completion of the 300-bed Bola Ahmed Tinubu Specialist Hospital stands as a landmark achievement in strengthening specialist healthcare delivery. Our commitment remains clear: no resident of Kaduna State should be denied healthcare because of cost or distance.

We also took deliberate steps to restore dignity to labour. In fulfilment of our promise of fairness and social justice, we implemented the new minimum wage and approved a 70 percent salary increase for staff of state-owned tertiary institutions. Conditions of service for health workers were improved, while retirement benefits for academic and non-academic staff were enhanced. A state that seeks progress must honour those who serve it.

To ease the daily burdens of our people, we introduced the Free CNG Mass Transit Scheme. Within months, it transported over 1.4 million passengers and saved households billions of naira in transport costs. Encouraged by its impact, we approved its indefinite continuation, because governance must translate into tangible improvements in everyday life.

We remained equally committed to rebuilding lives shattered by insecurity. Through partnerships with development organisations, we delivered free housing units to victims of banditry, restoring shelter, stability, and hope. Development, for us, must heal as well as build.
