All employees should know what to do if they get approached
by the media:
- state that they’re not an official spokesperson
- take the journalist’s name and contact information
- pass that info quickly to media relations
This protects the company and employees alike.
Oh Nduduzo! My online yoga classmate during and post the lockdown. The only guy in our class. Didn’t know he was Eusebius’s partner. Watching his tribute to his man’s today - Ah man!! I can see why they were a good fit.
Media trainers always say “don’t wear branded clothes for TV interviews, unless you’re promoting that brand”. For a govt minister, I can’t explain how insanely distracting that top is.
I tweeted about this last week but it felt too raw + I deleted it but—a couple months ago I survived a house fire. The firefighters had to come & get me from my bedroom. I was asleep. It not only traumatized me but it turned my world upside down. I’ve been struggling since.
Yes ma’m. It’s shiny object syndrome, misunderstood as luxury. Painful to witness in our lifetime, particularly exasperated by the social media phenomena😌😌
Luxury has nothing to do with the bright, shiny, new things. Logos and monograms are not luxury. It’s a cashmere sweater from Loro Piana. It’s a vintage Hermes bag, preferably handed down by your mother or grandmother. It’s heirloom jewelry that’s been in your family for generations.
The white Brunello Cucinello linen shirt I’m wearing in the pic belonged to my grandmother who passed it down to my mother, which I borrowed from her and never returned back because it felts so good on my skin .
Here's a little secret…
If a journalist hasn't replied to your first 5 pitch follow-ups, chances are they won't respond to the sixth either.
Also… you shouldn't be sending 5 pitch follow-ups in the first place.
My mind still can’t process the ‘Dr’ Nandipha and Thabo Bester saga. My previous journo brain is quite fascinated by the layers of angles in the story, but my current mind is in a hai man state. I can’t even believe the news that they’ve been found and arrested.
Go shopping alone, take yourself to dinner, go for a run alone, take a solo trip. There’s so much beauty in the art of learning to enjoy your own company.
These ones are the hardest press releases to write. “It is with great sadness that we confirm….”. Also the hardest thing to do is to deliver a speech or recite anything for a loved one, at a memorial or a funeral. 💔
My favourite type of people are multidimensional — various interests, asking questions, able to hold opposing viewpoints, always learning, critical thinkers, acknowledge their mistakes and course-correct. You know it as soon as you meet them. Captivating and intriguing.
