@franzsherbert I agree that it can't be put into words (at least not precisely and without extensive metaphor) but would still say that is a question of medium incompatibility rather than inherent complexity.

@ihteshamali @a43767796 Interesting - I know next to nothing about maths, but know a great deal about harmony, counterpoint, and fugue. I've studied Bach for decades. How should I get the most out of this if I am sceptical of Hofstadter's true understanding of JSB?

@ihteshamali I'm interested in reading this, however I'm often mildly irked by Hofstadter's apparent lack of true understanding of Bach. Conversely, I have no real understanding of deeper mathematics, but I do have a deep knowledge of Bach and his techniques. Am I wrong here? Explain why.
