This GoFundMe was created by Troop C of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol to support the family of Master Trooper Steven J. Perry, who was tragically killed in the line of duty. Trooper Perry died in a head-on collision with a wrong-way driver while protecting motorists in Durham County, leaving behind his loved ones and service family.

The funds raised will help the Perry family navigate life without him, including immediate expenses and longer-term financial needs. Most importantly, the fundraiser acknowledges that Trooper Perry was a devoted father — he leaves behind a daughter who now faces life without her dad’s love and support. The North Carolina State Highway Patrol and Troop C established this fundraiser as a way for the community, fellow officers, and supporters to show tangible support and care for his family during this incredibly difficult time.

ICE agents are law enforcement professionals performing a lawful and necessary duty. They do not create the laws—they enforce them. The increasing instances of agents being attacked, obstructed, harassed, or targeted through coordinated interference and intimidation are unacceptable and dangerous. No law enforcement officer—local, state, or federal—should face violence or obstruction simply for doing their job.
Peaceful protest is a constitutional right. However, assaulting officers, impeding lawful operations, doxxing agents, or encouraging interference crosses a clear line and undermines public safety, the rule of law, and the very freedoms such actions claim to defend.
Back The Blue NC, Inc. exists to support those who serve, protect, and sacrifice—often at great personal risk. ICE agents, like all law enforcement officers, leave their families each day not knowing what dangers they may face, yet they continue to serve with professionalism and resolve.

With deep sorrow, Back The Blue NC, Inc. joins the WakeMed Police Department and the broader law enforcement community in mourning the tragic line-of-duty death of Officer Roger Smith.

Officer Smith faithfully served the WakeMed Police Department for more than 12 years, protecting hospital staff, patients, and families with compassion and professionalism. Before joining WakeMed, he proudly served the Town of Knightdale, earning the respect and admiration of his colleagues and community. Those who worked alongside him describe him as kind-hearted, dedicated, and deeply committed to helping others. Beyond the badge, Roger was a loving son and devoted caregiver to his mother, whom he had been caring for in recent years.

As we grieve this devastating loss, Back The Blue NC, Inc. has established this official GoFundMe fundraiser to support Officer Smith’s family during this unimaginable time. Our nonprofit is 100% volunteer-run, and 100% of proceeds will be donated directly to Officer Smith’s grieving family to assist with funeral expenses, ongoing care for his mother, and other immediate needs.

💙 Remembering Officer Ryan Hayworth

Today marks four years since the tragic loss of Knightdale Police Officer Ryan Hayworth, who was killed in the line of duty on October 17, 2021. Though Ryan served with the Knightdale Police Department for only a short time, his impact on those around him was profound and lasting.

At just 23 years old, Ryan embodied courage, humility, and a deep commitment to protecting others. His legacy continues to inspire his brothers and sisters in law enforcement and the countless lives he touched through his service and his faith.

We stand with the Knightdale Police Department, the Hayworth family, and all who continue to carry Ryan’s memory forward.

Through the Live Like Ryan Foundation and events such as the Live Like Ryan 5K, his spirit of service, compassion, and kindness continues to change lives and remind us all to live with purpose.
