We don’t yet know what motivated the person who shot and killed Charlie Kirk, but this kind of despicable violence has no place in our democracy. Michelle and I will be praying for Charlie’s family tonight, especially his wife Erika and their two young children.
In response to Israel’s imminent annexation of the occupied West Bank, CJPME is urging @MarkJCarney to finally cancel the Canada-Israel Free Trade Agreement (CIFTA) and prohibit all trade with illegal Israeli settlements. Full statement: https://t.co/Mbi7Bkzq6o
Flight attendants defied a Section 107 back-to-work order, forcing Air Canada back to the table, and reached a tentative agreement. This sets a powerful precedent: only workers decide when a strike ends—not the federal government or its corporate friends.
Today’s action by the federal government to force Air Canada flight attendants back to work without pay is wrong. Like all workers, they deserve to be compensated for every hour on the job and to negotiate a fair contract at the bargaining table. That’s basic fairness.
It is wrong for the federal government to force these workers to go to work and not be paid. No one should stand for that. This move also sets a dangerous precedent and sends the wrong message to Air Canada instead of holding this very profitable company accountable.
Alberta’s New Democrats believe every worker deserves to go to work, get paid fairly, and come home safely. In a cost-of-living crisis, workers deserve better. Today’s federal government action is the opposite of standing up for working people.

"It's going to be impossible to teach a whole range of topics."
Palestinian American scholar Rashid Khalidi is canceling a course on Middle East history he was scheduled to teach this fall at Columbia University, citing the school's capitulation to the Trump administration.
Jon Stewart on Gaza: “I feel like I’m watching something that is so self-evidently inhumane and horrific and to be told that I have to shut up because I risk the Jewish state by speaking out? I would say the opposite. I think they’re putting the likelihood of a surviving Jewish state much more at risk with this type of action”
Five things to remember about war:
1. Many things reported with confidence in the first hours and days will turn out not to be true
2. Whatever they say, the people who start wars are often thinking chiefly about domestic politics
3. The rationale given for a war will change over time, such that actual success or failure in achieving a named objective is less relevant than one might think
4. Wars are unpredictable
5. Wars are easy to start and hard to stop
World leaders can make as many statements as they like opposing Israel's actions in Gaza.
Until they end the sale of weapons to Israel, they remain complicit in the mass murder of Palestinians.
Stop arming genocide, now.
