THE BACKLOG is the first ever Philosophy YouTube. Host Elliot @liberalshirts covers the history of philosophy from ancients 2 today. Mind some gaps. SUSCRIBE2IT
LUCRETIUS AND EPICUREANISM episode out in a couple of days!!! I mean it this time, please forgive the Aristotle snafu! I am an idiot, but I am the species of idiot who can explain Philosophy goodly and entertainingly. Y’all will love being introduced to the magnificent “Luke”
Aristotle episode has finally dropped!!! Jeez Louise, sorry that took forever. Huge thanks to @krunchylemonade for helping make this and future episodes happen https://t.co/9d6rrQTSj4
@lauram2005 @curmudgeon_x @BidenHarrisBro @BernieSanders F that, I’m sorry to hear it. Sounds like your husband is being really exploited and screwed around by the boss man
@8leggedloser @Trisha_TheDisha @QueerNoOrgans I then had to basically teach myself: when I discovered Adorno and he resonated so much with me, I had to “check out” Hegel to get some of what he was saying, then read Kant to get Hegel, read Hume to get Kant, etc etc. I still don’t know fuckin anything! It’s all just fun :)
@8leggedloser @Trisha_TheDisha @QueerNoOrgans It’s important to start with Plato, Aristotle, etc. I dunno why Locke rather than someone like Descartes, but Locke is important. I regretted coming out of undergrad only knowing like Derrida, Foucault, Deleuze et al and not having a grasp on the basic history of philosophy
@QueerNoOrgans @Trisha_TheDisha Philosophers are nerds. That’s just the way it is. Doesn’t matter if you read Lyotard or Saul Kripke. Every thinker in the canon is valuable if only for synthesizing your own thought, your own counter-thought, your own counter-canon even
broke: philosophy is just footnotes to plato
woke: philosophy cannot be summed up using just one thinker, it's a great conversation
bespoke: philosophy is just footnotes to parmenides
Liam’s response. Additionally, Suther’s dismissals of Adorno et al are groundless. History of Philosophy is long and convoluted and new theories about past philosophers blossom into sophisticated systems of their own https://t.co/jgI1C3sfb5
@8leggedloser It’s funny cuz like, I study Frankfurt school thinkers, particularly Adorno, primarily, as my area of interest. And tbh, as a general moniker for what they did in particular, “cultural Marxism” is not a bad fit. It’s just that the right wingers mean it totally different+insanely
@8leggedloser @_A_Psyche_ Damn, I actually said “wow” out loud when I looked at your list and saw Bloch wrote a book on Avicenna and “the Aristotelian Left.” Need to get that immediately
The Aristotle explainer has logged on. Due to technical hang ups, #Aristotle ep will drop tomorrow, along with the last Public patreon vid, a fun journey thru my Examined Life and a plea to get you to pay me money!!! Get fuckin amped
@8leggedloser @matildaaep I read in the interesting anthology of early semiotexte stuff called “Hatred of Capitalism” that Jack Smith (cool filmmaker) said to Sylvere Lotringer of their name, “That’s so boring. Call it ‘Hatred of Capitalism.’” And they did, for a while, back when it was a glorified zine
