The tunnels have now been closed since 31st Oct, with a couple of brief openings.

There’s an intermittent bus replacement but this is a huge inconvenience for those walking & cycling.

Can you imagine the storm if the car tunnels were closed for more than 2 weeks?

Enabling children & young people to cycle to school is one of the easiest ways of dealing with inactivity & obesity.

Plans for a cyclepath along Preston Road, North Shields - aimed at making the road safer for 100s of kids cycling to school & for all those trying to avoid dangerous driving - have been abandoned by @NTCouncilTeam @NTynesideLab

This is extremely disappointing.

The vast majority of people we see cycling on & around Preston Rd are:

- kids going to/from school or town centre
- adults in work clothes or with shopping, often on cheap bikes
- families with kids going to school/nursery.

It's them who will be endangered by this decision.

I thought it was odd to see a Merc van holding up the traffic at a green light on the #WhitleyBay coast today.

210 cyclists (double speed!) - all ages and abilities, and all sorts of cycles (tandems, follow-mes, balance bikes, cargo bikes, etc) - all adding their voices, or their wheels, to the call for more, better, safer, family-friendly cycling infra.
