Finally, we demonstrated that modulation of SREBP or the Malic enzyme was sufficient to ameliorate sleep deficits in Cyfip heterozygous flies. The work suggests modulation of the SREBP metabolic axis as a new avenue worth exploring for its therapeutic potential in sleep disorders
3. Furthermore, we showed that the over-activity of SREBP and one of its targets, the Malic enzyme, cause sleep deficits in Cyfip mutant flies via dysregulation of the brain NADP+/NADPH ratio.
