Thank you to @UN_SPExperts for sounding the alarm over the Baha'i community in Qatar: "UN experts today expressed alarm at the potential erasure of the Baha’i religious community from Qatar. Reports of sudden administrative deportations and blacklisting of Baha’is of numerous nationalities, across different employment fields and ages, had previously given cause for alarm and led to the decimation of the Baha’i community."

@IGFM_DE@MRLage_Bahai@BahaiDE
The Bahá'í community has been part of Egyptian society since 1863. For over a century, Egyptian Bahá'ís have contributed to their country across the arts, law, healthcare, education, media, banking, and engineering.
Yet today, they face systematic, state-sponsored persecution. Their marriages cannot be legally registered. Their children are denied birth certificates, immunisations, and school enrolment. A single dash on their ID cards—placed in the religion field because "Bahá'í" is not a permitted option—marks them for discrimination in employment and education. There is only one cemetery for the entire Bahá'í community in the country, and it is full, meaning Bahá’í families are resorting to the indignity of burying loved ones upright in any free patch of ground. Security agents surveil, summon, and interrogate Bahá'ís on a routine basis, and pressure their friends and neighbours to cut ties with them.

@nieuwwij reports on the cases of Peyvand and Borna Naimi, two young Bahá’í cousins who were subjected to mock executions and torture to extract false confessions. Their situation reflects the longstanding and escalating persecution of Bahá’ís in Iran, where minorities continue to be targeted, especially during times of national crisis.

BIC Representative to the UN @ShaddadHaddad delivered a statement regarding the persecution of Baha'is in #Yemen at the 40th meeting of #HRC60 at the @UN_HRC in Geneva: "Houthi leaders have vilified the Baha’i Faith as foreign and heretical, branding its members as spies, while urging hostility and violence. This closely parallels Iran’s longstanding anti-Bahá’í propaganda.”
On 22 September 2025, personal belongings of Nazanin Abedini, a resident of Qaemshahr, were confiscated by security forces upon her return to Iran at Imam Khomeini International Airport. The confiscated items include her passport, two mobile phones, personal notebooks, two Iranian-published books and sheets of music.
Ms. Abedini had travelled to Turkey to visit family and returned to Iran. Officials claimed, without providing a court order, that the actions were carried out on instructions from security agencies in Mazandaran province.
This incident follows Ms. Abedini’s detention in Qaemshahr on 25 June, when she was arrested by security forces. She was released from Sari Prison about a month later on bail, after being held along with inmates convicted of violent offences. During her earlier home raid and detention, authorities reportedly used force, breaking the door to her home and seizing electronic and personal belongings.
Nazanin Abedini is well-known in Qaemshahr as a children’s music instructor.

An “urgency resolution” by the European Parliament “strongly condemned” the Iranian government’s “persecution of ethnic and religious minorities” yesterday with an overwhelming majority, citing a 1991 memorandum signed by Iran’s supreme leader, which describes the government’s state-sponsored policy to persecute the Baha’is, and which calls for the “progress and development” of the Baha’i community to be “blocked”.
“The European Parliament is showing Iran’s government that they know the persecution of Baha’is is a state-sponsored policy and that representatives of 27 European countries are watching.” - @BayaniRachel, Representative of the Baha’i International Community (BIC) to the European institutions in Brussels.
