@realJennCurran @surfingeek@brhodes Footnote: US boots on the ground fighting in Syrian civil war for 5 years now = hundreds of thousands dead, millions displaced, chemical weapons used, Assad stronger than ever, US lives & $ gone. Yet we’re always/only 1 surge away from, um, “victory” in country X. Rinse & repeat
@realJennCurran @surfingeek@brhodes Inaction has consequences (power vacuum, loss of US influence, abandoning Kurds) but so does Action. US lives lost, healthcare bureaucracy post-service, trillions of dollars all debt, unchecked Executive war powers, no clear mission or exit ramp also all concern/annoy/anger me
@surfingeek@brhodes I can’t have a valid point about leaving Syria until we also leave Saudi/everywhere? Is it better to be consistently wrong or a hypocrite but sometimes right? I’d also make a distinction btw financing & fighting abroad neither of which I support but debt over death
@brhodes Yes! Our troops should stay in Syria (& everywhere else) indefinitely despite no congressional authority to do so & no compelling US interests that are unique/relevant to Syria v say 20 other unstable countries but whatever let’s nation/region build & hit em w that freedom !
@RepThomasMassie Translation you don’t think there’s any class of people (felons mentally ill etc) that should be prohibited by the gov from buying guns via (any) federal background check system as they’re inherently ineffective and or unconstitutional yes?
