I think a huge chunk of transphobia and the drag panic comes from homophobic people realizing that straight men can be attracted to someone who may or may not have a penis, and melting the whole way down.

Drag isn’t inherently sexual and trans people aren’t sexual objects. But patriarchy is so terrified of emasculation of any kind that drag and trans women rejecting masculinity (and implicating straight men attracted to drag queens or trans women) throws patriarchy into a spiral.
