I'm really enjoying the beautiful fall weather here in the Hill Country! It's a wonderful opportunity to get outdoors and get some extra steps in, hopefully helping me shed some pounds along the way. I hope everyone is having a fantastic day!
Yup, and some do a good job at it! I don’t call myself a meteorologist, but a communicator. I agree that a degree is necessary to be a meteorologist. Does my audience care? Based on my 15+ years of experience and analytics reaching into the nine digits, I’d say no. I recognize it, though, which is why I have meteorologists on my team. Hate the process all you want, but you either adapt and innovate - or your audience leaves you behind. I see plenty of meteorologists coming out of college who understand that and are doing amazing things in local Texas markets. Many folks who have been in the field for decades are catching on, too. Several people in the field sound like unfiltered uncles who make everyone cringe during Thanksgiving dinner. A good discussion and dialogue never hurt, but blatant insults and discrimination against anyone deemed ‘less worthy’ won't do much when you're talking in an echo chamber.
@therobdale@jwthiesing Eh. Helpful to the folks issuing the warnings? Cool, sounds like Europe. How about those who have to convey that information, because they’re going to want proof. Thankfully, @TexasTech will be installing radars next spring in the Texas Hill Country with OPEN DATA for all.
Rain's coming, y'all. Multiple rounds of it, moving west to east across Texas this week.
West Texas and the Panhandle get it first, Tuesday night into Wednesday. Then North Texas, the Big Country and the Hill Country on Wednesday, and right along I-35 on Thursday. Friday's still in play too.
Nearly everybody gets rain. Some spots could see 5 inches or more, but we don't know exactly where that heavy band sets up yet. Most of y'all won't flood. Some of us will have issues, especially Wednesday night through Friday.
And here's the part I've been waiting all fall to say: there's a real cold front behind it. Highs in the 70s and 80s for most of Texas by Friday.
Turn around, don't drown.

Happy to be attending the Texas Weather Conference in College Station over the last few days. Always great to catch up with friends and learn what’s coming up!
Spent the last week in OCNJ helping my parents after my dad had his second knee replacement. Beautiful weather for sure, but I'm ready to get back to Texas!
My evenings with @MissAshes92 have involved watching @AriWeather this week. Actually have really enjoyed the show’s format. Fun way to wind down the day (or in my case, getting ready for overnight flooding).
It’s almost midnight. It’s still hot outside. It’ll get hotter after the sun rises. Rinse (but only metaphorically because it won’t rain anytime soon) and repeat daily until Halloween. -David
You don't get to publically trash someone on Sunday and Monday and try to join their club house on Tuesday. There was progress being made on the integration of digital weather influencers into the integrated warning team… until YOUR TEAM blew that to kingdom come beginning last October. Y'all have no one to blame but yourselves. -David Reimer
… and there goes any chance of digital folks being taken seriously in any integrated warning team environments. 😬🤦♂️ but hey, at least Max earned his meteorology degree! @nynjpaweather
