أعلنت مجلة "ذي إيكونوميست" البريطانية اختيار سورية "دولة عام 2025"، ضمن تقليدها السنوي لاختيار الدولة التي حققت أكبر تحسّن خلال العام.
قالت المجلة إن سورية فاجأت العالم، فبعد سقوط النظام خشي العالم من الفوضى، وهذا ما كنتُ أتوقعه فعلا، ولكن السوريين فعلوا المستحيل، وبلادهم شهدت تحسنًا كبيرا على صعيد الحريات والعلاقات الدولية والتعافي الاقتصادي، ومع أن الحياة ليست سهلة لكنها طبيعية بدرجة كبيرة والناس أصبحوا أكثر سعادة من العام الماضي، بحسب المجلة.
وأضيف على ما ذكره التقرير أن الطبيعي في حالة كهذه سقوط البلد في دوامة عنف طائفي قد تمتد لسنوات، وأن يسارع كل مظلوم للاقتصاص من المجرمين بيده، وأن يتحول البلد إلى غابة فوضوية وحكومة فاشلة. ومع أن هناك الكثير من الأخطاء التي حدثت وما زالت تحدث لكن لطف الله بسورية أكبر بكثير من أفضل توقعاتنا، وقد أشرتُ إلى ذلك في حلقة قبل أسبوع تجدونها في التعليقات.

The Kurds suffered systematic discrimination under the rule of the Assad family, where they were treated as second-class citizens. They were denied the right to learn their Kurdish language in schools, prohibited from celebrating their cultural traditions such as Nowruz, and more than 300,000 Syrian Kurds were stripped of their citizenship, leaving them legally stateless in their own homeland.

Today, Syrians witness a new dawn with the historic agreement between President Ahmed Al-Sharaa and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), which aims to integrate all national forces into a unified army. This bold step paves the way for a strong and stable Syria, putting an end to decades of discrimination and division.

As the Syrian American community, we proudly welcome this agreement and see it as a monumental step toward a united Syria that excludes no one—where living together is not just coexistence, but a shared right, and where citizenship is not a privilege but both a duty and a right for all. It is time to lift the sanctions imposed on our new Syria, and I look forward to working with the SDF lobby in America to secure a future worthy of all Syrians, without exception. @MazloumAbdi
