@DNAtalks Celebrating #DNADay19 and 35 years as a genetic counselor, by hanging with Dylan my DNAdog and putting together a DNAtalk to raise hereditary cancer awareness #GCchat#DNA#DNADay
Politicians and many media outlets are not accurate in portrayal of reputable testing Elizabeth Warren underwent through Stanford...not a shoddy test and results are consistent with her family history.
@GYRIG As a genetic counselor I have often met with individuals who didn't know before the visit that test results or their fam hx could change their surveillance and cancer prevention options. @HHampel1 is right knowledge is power. #CRCgenetics
@GYRIG A9: Too often the decision to pass on having testing is made without having enough info. I would say -learn enough to make an informed decision - meet with a genetic counselor and then decide. #CRCgenetics
@GYRIG A7: The discussions and care at the primary care level depend on the provider, their knowledge, interest, and time available. Some providers are excellent coordinators of care for those with hereditary cancer-often working with genetics professionals for updates. #CRCgenetics
@GYRIG A5: Many aren't aware that costs of clinical CRC-focused genetic tests have dropped, are often covered and multi-gene panel tests for CRC are tools for answers that were not available 10 years ago. #crcgenetics
