Literally, what Barcelona’s current sporting director Deco is doing is fixing the mistakes left behind by the previous sporting director, Mateu Alemany. ����🏻

A lot of Deco’s work was held back by Alemany’s previous mistakes, which left Barcelona unable to sign players and with their wage bill completely suffocating the club’s financial space.

Ansu Fati’s ridiculous salary, which Deco has now managed to get rid of.

Araújo’s huge salary as well. He has now left on loan, with Liverpool covering his wages.

Ter Stegen’s massive salary. He has gone out on loan too, although Barcelona are still covering a significant part of it.

Jules Koundé and his extremely high salary, with reports currently suggesting he could leave for the Premier League.

Ferran Torres, who was signed for a huge fee despite being little more than an unknown backup at Manchester City.

And there are many, many other financial and economic problems that Deco inherited when he was appointed sporting director. Barcelona literally couldn’t register a single signing at the time. 👌🏻

Deco’s real work has started this season, and he has managed to turn things around to the point where, together with Laporta and Flick, Barcelona now have much more breathing room in the transfer market.

I take my hat off to Deco as a successful sporting director. He is getting rid of players who are no longer important but earn huge salaries, while bringing in excellent signings on reasonable wages.
