@LinguistSophie @uwanews@kasturi61200 What a great unit. And a great article! There exists the same behaviours in signed languages. An Auslan signer will waggle their hand toward their conversation partner like tapping an imaginary table to signify they want a turn allowing the other to wrap up.
My favourite thing about Dinotopia is that they combined the words 'Dinosaur' and 'Utopia' to give the sense of 'Dinosaur Land'. But the 'dino' part comes from the Greek deinos meaning terrible and thus it literally means 'Terrible Place'
There is not one single piece of television that is more relatable than Marge Simpson saying 'at times like this, I guess all you can do is laugh' and then staring silently
Confession time: I used to look down on people who ate pies with a knife and fork. Now I've started doing it and I just want to say I'm sorry. I was wrong all these years. It is clearly superior.
Use of pronouns is descriptive not prescriptive meaning linguisticslly it matters how they ARE used not how certain people think they SHOULD be used. So if people use pronouns to identify a certain way of course It's valid. Oh also it's none of your goddamn business.
