@laurel_prolife@sheilagregoire And there it is - your emotional reaction is that she's pathetic. Finally found the bottom line. I'm sure you feel the same way about the complex emotions and reactions to other victims of sexual assault and abuse
@laurel_prolife@sheilagregoire I'm not the only one with this understanding. Why you want David to be innocent and Bathsheba guilty? Scripture calls her a lamb. You've got lots of resources in this thread and more. The word "rape" is not in the KJV, all those other translations must be twisting scripture, too
@laurel_prolife@sheilagregoire Oopsie... The word Bible isn't in the, you know, Bible, along with many, many more that I'll bet you've been using all your life. Reading the Bible is more than a rote exercise. If you don't have any feelings about it, or empathy, or connection to it, what's the point?
@Patricia_Ann_E I shared this with my bff, who has read them, and he laughed and agreed that common descriptions included "ample" and even "profound" ๐
@DariusAGreen I think it's partly a lack of empathy. Like when you share your happiness, and people come for you because not everyone can afford, has the luxury, is traumatized, etc, etc - we can have empathy for the good as well as the bad
This has become a common deflection in the face of suffering. Healthcare is broken? Don't bother w/ self-care or compassion til it's fixed - it's been broken for decades. People hungry a/ hurricane? It's climate change & poor infrastructure. Be like the @WCKitchen and feed people
I can't tell if this is happening more frequently or if I'm just noticing it more often, but I don't love the argument strategy where people criticize a policy initiative aimed at a specific problem because it wouldn't solve a broader, more complex social ill.
To me, it also means to be aware of injustice - not passively, but keeping my eyes open, seeking ways to learn, and listening to what the people affected have to say
Woke is essentially saying be respectful to people who aren't like you. Don't be transphobic, don't be ableist, don't be racist in your deeds or your language. Make space for marginalized people. Be aware of the needs of others even if you don't understand their journey.
@_legless_wonder I saw the video, and I was outraged - I'm so glad to see that you're ok. It's such a degrading thing to do to someone. I know the sting of this. Be gentle with yourself
@iryelin@ask_aubry Holy moley - we're nothing but a series of tubes within tubes, so technically, everything could be considered "outside," but to what purpose?
@Jef_MedEd@ask_aubry We are nothing but a series of tubes within tubes, this thread puts even our blood "outside," because our blood vessels are semi-permiable membranes. All life depends on connection w/ the outside. This distinction has no practical application, and the OP is an idiot
