Police in riot gear raided my home. They arrived with a key and a saw at the ready. My 16-year-old son was handcuffed while I was detained in a room as officers searched the entire property from top to bottom. He was arrested solely for being present at the protest.
In the same town, my 12-year-old daughter was groomed, raped, beaten and died. Despite an admission of guilt, the perpetrator was only requested to attend a voluntary interview.
This is two-tier policing in practice.

Desperate to find SOMETHING to apologise for despite its role in the forefront of the abolitionist movement, the Church of England discovered that for part of the eighteenth century, a sum set aside for poor clergymen and known as Queen Anne’s Bounty had been invested in the South Sea Company, which was involved in shipping enslaved people.
The investment was made by accountants acting on behalf of the church, almost certainly without instruction. Its vicars were, at the time, demanding abolition from the pulpit; its bishops were voting for it in the Lords; its congregants were raising money for anti-slavery campaigns; its missionaries were touring Africa trying to persuade local chiefs to manumit their slaves.
None of that matters, though, because, across the period when the shares were held, they lost money. The Church of England’s profit from the South Sea Company? Zero.

Churches in West Suffolk are raising every penny they can to keep the roof up.

Many have valuable - sometimes unique - architectural features.

They are all part of our national story - our inheritance.

For Lambeth Palace to pursue gesture politics with such huge sums - while our churches crumble - is grotesque.

Like Welby before her, the Archbishop is indulging in theologically nonsensical politics.

Welby said, “there can be forgiveness [of those from the past now deemed unacceptable], but only if there’s justice: if we change the way we behave now.”

Just the same, the Archbishop says “I pray that we have the courage to continue our journey of repentance.”

But we cannot repent the sins of others. Forgiveness is not conditional on the behaviour of different people and generations.

The Bible says, “a son will not bear the iniquity of the father, and a father will not bear the iniquity of the son.”

This money should be invested in our parish churches.

Two police officers came to my home because I spoke up for laboratory beagles.
MBR Acres complained about one of my Instagram reels and I was accused of an offence under the Online Safety Act.

My reel was based on evidence I believed to be genuine, including a Stericycle hazardous waste consignment note, whistleblower information and corroborating Home Office correspondence. I refused to admit guilt because I had done nothing dishonest.

After my solicitor explained the evidence behind my reel, Cambridgeshire Police took no further action and closed the investigation.

But the wider issue remains.

If people can face a police investigation for speaking on a matter of public interest, backed by evidence they believed to be true, then freedom of expression in Britain is under real pressure.

We should all be asking ourselves: what kind of country do we want to be? One where citizens can question powerful organisations without fear, or one where people begin to think twice before speaking because they worry the police may come knocking at their door?

It made me think of Orwell’s 1984. Not because Britain is that society, but because the fear of speaking freely is how societies begin to silence themselves.

My conscience is clear. I don’t lie. I speak from the heart and I do everything I reasonably can to ensure what I publish is evidence-based.

I will never stop standing up for animals, and I will never be intimidated into silence.

Free speech isn’t tested when everyone agrees with you. It’s tested when people have the right to question powerful interests without fearing the consequences. We must protect that right.
