This is how we know the NHTSA is allowing for these blinding headlights.
The problem isn't individual issues such as misalignment or aftermarket lights - the new stock LED headlights are designed to be blinding at these angles, made possible by NHTSA's LB1V/LB2V death-ray zone.
@bobbydownes@RepMGP@Tesla Screw that non cost effective bullshit. Dim the lights. Blinding oncoming traffic so you can see them crossing the line better seems silly.
People commentating that this is too small an issue actually just don’t understand governance - you can do both major and minor policy initiatives. It’s not zero sum at all
@amoylan@RepMGP Idk what you're talking about because this same problem exists here in Europe. Maybe you're turning 1 or few countries into entire Europe? Or maybe car manufacturers found a loophole and have a way to cheat the system?
@amoylan@RepMGP Yes, brightness is the problem. Adaptive headlights literally only make headlights _brighter_. "Adaptive headlights" means automatic high beams. The low beams will still be just as bright.
If there's one thing Democrats & Republicans can agree on, it's that headlights are too damn bright.
Brightness doubled in the last decade, yet our standards are from before I was born.
My amendment passed to find solutions, since it's not a binary choice between the light of 1,000 suns and driving in the dark.
