"The earth belongs... to the living... the dead have neither powers nor rights over it. The portion occupied by any generation ceases to be theirs when they themselves cease to be, and reverts to the society of the living. If that society has formed no debts, then the earth remains to them as their own right and not as the patrimony of their predecessors. If it has, then the living must pay the debts of the dead, as they must eat the fruits and labor of the dead, in like manner as they seize the lands of the dead." - Thomas Jefferson
I just found out you can use https://t.co/yV0ZQszeha to outsource GPUs for $1-2 a hour, which has massive break-even prices. So you run local models/systems, then offload the compute for dirt cheap.
@quxiaoyin No serious coder/dev I know uses GLM over Opus. The gap is closing perhaps, but no serious person is going to trust Chinese servers with their IP either.
@johnennis Why you don't think Foreigners will get access to this? They can just ask someone with a drivers license and a VPN. There is no competitive advantage, and no way to enforce this imho.
@AndrewCurran_ Going to be hard to ban open source for this stuff. It would be a wide internet restriction on stuff. Most hardcore devs would use Tor or something else to acquire models. So I think you are wrong on this imho.
@theojaffee The companies would have to sue, no consumer really, extremely complex. China will compete and everything will go to local in 3-5 years imho for 99% of use cases.
