@christopherhale I don't disagree with the Pope, and would love to see this happen. But I think Israeli leaders make valid points about the concerns related to the lack of formal leadership or governance in Palestine that could make it a peaceful partner in the region. I pray for these nations.

@JamesMartinSJ What bothers me about this is that Christ came for all nations (i.e. gentiles). I understand pausing with nations where there are concerns about terrorism.

But, ultimately, I would hope for a process that involves serious vetting where concerns are present.

@SwamTheTiber Also, though a Catholic, I have sincere admiration for both of the Wesley brothers, whose faith in Jesus created a distinctive path of discipleship. I can't read their writing and hymns without loving Christ more.

@SwamTheTiber Wonderful apologetics and I share faith in the perpetual virginity of the mother of Jesus the Christ, in whom God entered and united with in entirety.

I think the hard part of this is because of how these scriptures are translated into English without necessarily explaining.

Romans 3:21-5:21 is about justification by faith. This scripture is key to understanding Protestant conceptions of justification. Catholics and Lutherans formally that faith in Christ, a grace of God, justifies man.

But, have us Catholics really considered the implications?

@dlongenecker1 It's easy to argue against beliefs when we look at the worst arguments for believing them. It's also easy to feed the sin of pride that way. Our dogmas seem so easy to believe when we make other people look like idiots for not believing like we do. But this lacks charity.

@catholiccom I think they were scandalized by the Christian witness they saw and this contributed to them seeing liturgical and sacramental worship as empty (ineffectual) in respect to the call to repentance and faith in Christ as the Gospel of God.

@catholiccom I wonder if they weren't more concerned with how these days were celebrated rather than having faith in and remembering/celebrating these moments in salvation history. Puritan critiques were based in concern about the proliferation of vice among their Anglican brethren.

Insofar as @SenatorDurbin has exercised certain political virtues it does not alone qualify him to stand for endorsement by a successor of the apostles.

He has demonstrated lifelong, public, opposition to the commandment against direct and willful homicide.

The Archdiocese of Chicago’s plan to give @SenatorDurbin a Catholic “Lifetime Achievement Award” is untenable. Works of justice & protecting life are not mutually exclusive but must be inclusive. Abortion violates “Thou shalt not kill” (Ex 20:13). I join @BishopPaprocki & @ArchCordileone in urging @CardinalBCupich to retract this award. Let us together pray & act consistently for life!

While I don't advocate for anything that contradicts the commandments and God's wisdom, I wish that if/when people give evidential claims they would reference the source. Without a valid and reliable source of evidence it means nothing.

In May 1994, a French priest named Fr. Raymond Arnette claimed he was given a locution revealing what the Third Secret of Fatima originally was:
