Today, February 15, we remember the 21 Coptic Martyrs who lost their lives in Libya in 2015.

These men—20 Egyptian Coptic Christians and one Ghanaian Christian—were taken because of their faith. In their final moments, they stood firm, praying and proclaiming their belief.

Coptic Martyrs’ Day is a time to honor their courage, remember their sacrifice, and reflect on the enduring power of faith even in the face of persecution.

May their witness continue to inspire unity, strength, and hope.

In February 2015, #ISIS murdered 21 #Coptic Christian men on a Libyan beach. Kidnapped in 2014, they were told to deny Christ or die. On February 15, a video showed them in orange jumpsuits. Their final words were “Ya Rab Yesouh” O Lord Jesus. They died faithful, as #martyrs.

As a Coptic Orthodox Christian, I firmly condemn Rep. James Talarico's blatant misuse of the Annunciation (Luke 1:26-38) to justify abortion.

The Blessed Virgin Mary's response, "Behold the handmaid of the Lord, be it unto me according to thy word," is the pinnacle of humble obedience and joyful embrace of God's gift of life. It reverses Eve's disobedience and opens the door to humanity's salvation. The angel proclaims God's plan. Mary freely submits in reverence, not as a revocable "consent" in some modern sense.

This event is singular. The Theotokos conceives the Incarnate God by the Holy Spirit alone. It offers no precedent for ending human life. Coptic doctrine is crystal clear. Life begins at conception, ensouled by God, and is inviolable. Abortion is grave sin, violating "You shall not kill" and rejecting children as God's blessing (Psalm 127:3).

Twisting this sacred mystery to defend abortion is a grave distortion of Scripture and an affront to apostolic faith.

We pray earnestly for Rep. Talarico and all involved, that they embrace the sanctity of every life from conception.

Nigeria: Yet another Christian has been sentenced to death for the crime of self-defense.

Victor Solomon (aka Zidane), a Christian who defended his community from Fulani Islamist attacks has been sentenced to death for doing so.

Shockingly, he was charged with the same crime in two different state courts.

He was acquitted in one but condemned in Kaduna by a Muslim judge.

Christians have a right to defend themselves from Islamists who attack them.

This is not okay. Pray for Zidane, his family and community. He needs immediate help.
