i just… am in shock.
@DavidGraeber, may you rest in power. you were always an Elder to me, someone i have looked up as a source of inspiration and radicalized clarity.
i will miss the joy of our debates and banters.
you're with the Ancestors now.
14.7% unemployment rate, worst since Great Depression, doesn't include
1. those not actively looking for work because no jobs,
2. anyone who said they're employed but absent from work for "other"reasons (like the pandemic).
Include them, and real unemployment rate over 20%.
Universal basic income, a strong national healthcare system and supply lines and manufacturing coming back home are the best ways to deal with the pandemic.
BREAKING OVERNIGHT
Get ready to starve, folks. The American Government has demonstrated yet again their feverish desire to appease corporations before helping citizens. $2Trillion and all we get to show for it is a $1200 one time payment to “most” Americans. Great.
@scottsantens @MrSethLundquist @Emperor_Ethan Probably the most powerful line in any Christmas movie period . When I got older and heard it as an adult , I only wondered how it was so popular with a nation of ppl who totally seem to have missed the point ...
‘This would be tremendous for America … this is not as radical as you might think’ — @AndrewYang explains why he’s spearheaded his campaign with universal basic income in the latest ’20 Questions for 2020’
Interesting article until: "The annual stipend to US families would not be the same as a universal basic income stipend. Under this plan, adult recipients would have to be fully employed, disabled or advancing through university or a trade school."
Why??

Intern describes just how many jobs they've personally helped eliminate within weeks of starting their internship in automation. Automation should be something those doing the automating are proud of, not something people feel guilty about. We need productivity-indexed UBI ASAP.
@realDonaldTrump America under Trump:
- Hate crimes on the rise
- Nothing done to protect elections
- Nothing done to protect the environment
- Rich getting richer and poor getting poorer
- Children dying in detention centers
We don’t hate America. We hate you.
Donald Trump has decided he does not want to be President of the United States.
He does not want to be a President to those who disagree.
And he’d rather see most Americans leave than handle our nation’s enshrined tradition of dissent.
But we don’t leave the things we love. 🇺🇸
You are angry because you can’t conceive of an America that includes us. You rely on a frightened America for your plunder.
You won’t accept a nation that sees healthcare as a right or education as a #1 priority, especially where we’re the ones fighting for it.
Yet here we are.
@realDonaldTrump "In every age it has been the tyrant, the oppressor and the exploiter who has wrapped himself in the cloak of patriotism or religion or both, to deceive and overawe the people."
– Eugene V. Debs
@realDonaldTrump That’s about the most un-American thing you can say. Dissent is as American as it gets. Saying “My vision of America is the only vision” makes you more like Stalin than Jefferson.
Amazon's warehouses = "sweatshops," "dead ends" for low-income workers. By exploiting them Bezos is world's richest man.
Capitalism: enriching few by impoverishing many. Now $ millions to be spent painting lipstick on the pig.
