You do understand that marraige in this context is a legal, tax, and medical status that has real world consequences that religious people will use that legal aspect to keep gays out of whole segments of life through it, right? Spouses get medical visitation that non-spouses don’t, tax benefits and drawbacks, child custody claims, inheritance and life insurance claims, and so on.

That’s what marraige can get you that in a location religious people have outlawed marraige in gays can’t get access to.
