@Ridge_XR Customers often misdiagnose the problem or ask for the wrong solution. But their frustration is real. They may not know what they want, but they’re great at showing you what’s broken.
@Ridge_XR It comes down to how you interpret the feedback. People ask for a faster horse because they haven’t seen the car (i.e. during dev). But if they’ve driven the car and still want the horse -- that’s a problem. And if they’re complaining before even trying it, that’s just noise.
@TheWireWhiz I was excited at first, but that’s not the real price — it doesn’t have speakers or any infotainment, still uses manual windows, let alone self driving, and includes “EV credits”
It’s miles behind BYD and would likely cost the same as a tesla once you add all the accessories.
The biggest differentiator for Quest is its collection of standalone immersive VR games.
That’s a strength to double down on, not a weakness that needs to be erased.
Meta CTO responds to the controversy around using "MR" to mean both MR and VR, calls it "one of the most absolutely manufactured controversies of all time" and "a total fabrication of the community out of nothingness", tells complainers to "move on":

@Star_Centurion In a perfect world I’d agree with you — they are all better than horizon.
But imagine searching Gorilla the first 10 options are all horizon worlds and you get directly launched into horizon the moment you put headset on.
Meta don’t want a console, they want a horizon machine
Rec room is stuck between a rock and a hard place.
On VR, horizon world is squeezing them out due to prominent placement.
On mobile, they are competing with all other mobile games like Roblox and Genshin.
16% of Rec Room's staff are facing layoffs, and the studio outlined how it plans to become self-sustaining in a “dramatically changed” market:

The problem is not f2p -- it's Meta using its monopolistic power to push low-quality first-party contents over third-party freemium AND premium contents.
If it's about transitioning to f2p, they should open the store so VRChat/RecRoom worlds can be indexed as well.
Andrew Bosworth, Meta’s CTO has responded to concerns users have about Horizon Worlds and other f2p titles taking over the Quest store, leaving less room for paid games.
@UploadVR Cool, but "According to the researchers, the end result system runs at just 8 FPS on an RTX 3090."
Meta has been touting photorealistic avatars for the past 6 years -- still not a single functional user-facing product to show.
@Cade_XR They didn’t even need to train anything. They probably got a database of e-book. And just feed the segment of what you read (since you have to enter the page) to the context window, or ChatGPT’s semantic search API to make it a RAG.
