@TerryWhenham@Barber1944 Great podcast, great to hear Neil discuss the history and also some of the veterans accounts.
We miss them.
So important to remember those that never returned.
Looking forward to getting a copy of the new book.
Great to hear @WW2TV mentioned and others keeping the memory alive.
@SeaSpitfires The Brit Airborne troops here, crashing through the green house, makes me think its 9th Bn and Otway with his Batman Wilson, when reading p54 of The Day the Devils Dropped In @Barber1944

Humbling to read lots of #DDay82 posts and threads today, many from family remembering their loved ones. The sacrifices of those who did not return must never be forgotten. Meeting some of those who did certainly left a mark on my life.

@RiflesRegiment Coup de Main - Operation Tonga, Not Operation Deadstick.
An enlightening read here that must be shared, thanks for @SeaSpitfires

Intrigued by @SWright58's comments about the famous Pegasus and Horsa bridges on D-Day, and the accuracy of the name "Operation Deadstick", I've looked at a few logs and war diaries. I agree I'm not seeing much evidence for it... 📷IWM B5288 1/9

@MagicPuddingDi@WW2HQ Technically Lt Todd, with 7th Bn Para, was with the force to reinforce and defend the bridge not take it. In 1944 his CO was Lt Col Pine-Coffin. Maj Howard was D Coy Commander of 2nd Oxf & Bucks. Once 7th Bn arrived at the bridge the Oxf & Bucks came under their command.
@DrHelenFry@BeaverWestminst I wonder what Margaret’s thoughts on the British Airborne assault on D-Day would have been, knowing her brother was a pioneer of the Glider Pilot Regiment @GPRSociety
Kerry Howard published a wonderful book on their wartime correspondence here https://t.co/JWKXAxwXHw
@SeaSpitfires Chapter 1 - Operation Deadstick at all?!
Still doing the rounds with @The_Rifles although the Army Flying Museum @LearningatMaf and @GPRSociety are doing great work to enforce Coup de Main and Op Tonga.
@Barber1944 the question continues!
Remembering Rifleman Andrew Fentiman, 7th Battalion The Rifles, killed by enemy small arms fire whilst on foot patrol near Sangin, Helmand Province, Afghanistan on the 15th November 2009 aged 23. Andrew was from Cambridge. #Afghanistan#TheRifles
Today on #VJDay our family remember relatives captured and held at the hands of the Japanese. Pte Jack Cunnington (RAMC), and Pte Herbert Sharp (5th Suffolks) both fortunately returned but with the memories of captivity haunting them throughout their later life. #VJDay80
Remember today, all those men of 4th & 5th Bn’s of the Suffolk Regiment who endured captivity at the hands of the Japanese, especially all those who sadly never made it home. The casualty statistics are both staggering and sobering, showing the brutality of their captors…(1/3)
Wishing ourselves a Happy Birthday!
The Rifles was formed in 2007 when four famous regiments came together to create the largest infantry regiment in the British Army, which would quickly become battle-hardened on operations across Iraq, Afghanistan and beyond.
