Talking Heads - The Great Curve
A one-chord celebration of sexuality and the nature of existence, both breathless and brimming with joy. An explosive journey for the ears, and possibly their finest moment.
1980.
William S. Burroughs and Bill Laswell - Words of Advice
Old Bull Lee laying down a string of cynical, deadpan life lessons over a languid hip-hop groove. A world-weary uncle schooling you from the darkest corner of an opium den.
1994.
Prince - All the Critics Love U in New York
Prince in haughty form mocking a NY scene where cool matters more than substance. Minimal, sleek, with a cynicism underneath. A man roasting pretentiousness, in style.
1982.
Prince - I Wanna Be Your Lover
Vocals, guitars, bass, drums, Clavinet, electric piano, Oberheim, Polymoog, Minimoog and ARP Strings - all performed by 21-year-old Prince.

The premiere of Carl Theodor Dreyer's 'Vampyr' (1932) in Germany was delayed by UFA for nearly nine months since the studio wanted the American films "Dracula" (1931) and "Frankenstein" (1931) to be released first. But the film was still a financial failure.
When it finally premiered in Berlin on 6 May 1932, the audience booed the film, and Dreyer reportedly removed several scenes following the first screening. When the movie was screened in Vienna, audiences demanded their money back. When this was denied, a riot broke out, and police restored order with night sticks.
P.S: On this day, 96 years ago, 'Vampyr' (1932) was released in Germany.
Before making "Strike" (1925), Sergei Eisenstein spent many months meeting a number of formerly outlawed Party activists and strikers. He visited a number of factories, and assembled a prodigious amount of documentation and read many books such as Émile Zola's 'Germinal'.

P.S: On this day, 101 years ago, "Strike" (2025) was released in the Soviet Union.
The Stooges - Dirt
Iggy’s on fire here, a vocal tour de force. A brooding, slow-rolling psychedelic stew, one that allows space for Ron to darkly skulk around in. Which he does, rather brilliantly.
1970.
