Livestock Vaccination:

Diseases are not the key challenges impeding the growth of the livestock sector. GoK simply lacks the will to prioritise the sector. Somalia, with no KEVVAPI or Bill Gates et all, exported 22 million live animals worth $3 billion past 5 years ( Central Bank Somalia). Kenya exports of livestock was a paltry $ 20 million last year (UN Comtrade data), its best year. Ethiopia ranks closer to Somalia. The Livestock Sessional Paper no. 20 of 2020 does not mention export of animals at all! Nor does it state a policy to carry out a nationwide vaccination campaign as a disease control measure. There are many key policy imperatives that need urgent govt attention in that paper. Pastoralists counties being addressed in Wajir lost 2.6 million animals, worth $1.75 billion, in 2021/22, according to Kenya National Drought Mgt Authority. Their priority is clearly not vaccination! NB: Am not mad, nor possessed! These are facts!
