Dear Honorable Minister @muhammadpate ,
Sir,
I hope this letter finds you in good health and high spirits. I am writing to bring to your urgent attention a deeply disturbing crisis unfolding at Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital in Kaduna, which has significant implications for the healthcare system in the state and, indeed, the entire nation.
The Association of Resident Doctors in Kaduna is poised to embark on a strike action due to pressing issues that have reached a critical level. The situation is alarming: Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital currently has only 9 house officers available, despite the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (@MDCNOfficial ) allocating 96 slots for house officers. Out of these 9, only 3 are receiving salaries, leaving 6 without any form of compensation. This severe shortage of manpower is not an isolated issue; many general hospitals in Kaduna are reportedly operating with as few as 1 doctor.
Additionally, the situation for the nursing staff is equally dire. Nurses are being forced to cover entire wards, with 1 nurse responsible for an entire ward, including the labor ward in Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital. This is not only unfair but also compromises patient care and safety, placing an overwhelming burden on our dedicated nursing professionals.
In addition to these staffing challenges, the doctors in the state are still being compensated under the CONMESS 2014 salary structure ,while their counterparts in other states benefit from an upgraded CONMESS. This disparity is not only unjust but also demoralizing for our healthcare providers who are dedicated to serving the community under increasingly difficult circumstances.
As the situation escalates, the response from the Hospital Management has been disheartening. The doctors who have decided to take a stand for their rights and the rights of their patients are facing threats of Warning and Termination Letters. They have been instructed to collect these letters, which are unjustly tied to claims of overstaying their residency training—an issue exacerbated by the systemic denial of opportunities for outside postings due to the very manpower shortages that plague the hospitals.
This punitive action against our healthcare providers is not only unfair but also counterproductive, especially at a time when Nigeria is struggling to retain healthcare professionals. The Presidents @officialABAT Renewed Hope Agenda in Healthcare clearly opposes such practices, and the forthcoming policy on health workforce migration emphasizes the welfare of Nigerian healthcare providers as its primary focus. The actions being taken against these doctors stand in stark contrast to the spirit of this policy.
It is disheartening to witness the demoralization of our healthcare providers, who may find themselves questioning their commitment to the medical profession. This is not the treatment that should be meted out to those who have dedicated their lives to the service of others.
We beg you, Honorable Minister, to take immediate action to address these issues. The healthcare system in Kaduna—and indeed Nigeria—depends on the well-being and morale of its healthcare providers. I believe strongly that you have the capacity and the will to enact change that will not only support our doctors and nurses but also enhance the quality of healthcare for all citizens.
Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter. May God Bless you for always listening to our plights whenever we call.
Sincerely,
Dr Alamin Muhammad Usman.

For me, Christmas came too early and this old woman here, is my own Santa.
I'm quite emotional today and this is certainly a reminder to do more; especially for these women who put their lives on the line to bring forth a new life.
A Little Act of Kindness that means so much more ❣️
It was her first time in the labour room and as it often the case, the experience was entirely strange to her. A little bit too dramatic though but with some little support, she delivered a beautiful baby girl.
She told the mum of this doctor whom in her judgement, was kind to her while in labour.
The mother took with her these beautiful gifts all the way from the east to up-north just to say THANK YOU.

I stayed in Bauchi for over a year. That was enough time for my buds to accustom

After witnessing what the state governors across the country did with the SIECOMs under their control in the just concluded Local Government Elections, do we still want to continue the conversation on State Police?

Woke up at 2:30am and randomly thinking about many of my lecturers back in school who read nearly every book; especially Cotran Histopathology from cover to cover during their undergraduate days. 🌚🌚🌚
Then there was me who read "The Guide" cover to cover and back to cover. 🤡
@mohagirei@nard_nigeria@Nigerian_Doctor Congratulations Dr. Mo of Katsinan Dikko. Allah ya taya ka da riko.
It was a worthwhile engagement with your team over the last few weeks.
