Josh Evans passed his doctoral qualifying exam with flying colors! Congratulations, Josh 🥳
Be on the lookout for amazing work from him focusing on deep learning characterization of atomic defects in 2D materials under ambient conditions 🔬
Job alert!!! We are looking to add a post-doctoral fellow to our research group at at UC Merced, with funding from the Moore foundation. If you are interested, please send your CV to [email protected]. Please feel free to share with your networks!
Very excited to deliver a guest lecture (and a fireside chat!) at the upcoming AFM workshop @Stanford 🔬

This week was a whirlwind of travel with two invited talks at the #APSSummit26 in Denver, and the 2026 TMS Meeting in San Diego.
However, the highlight was running into two of my students from Bilkent, Bengisu Şişik and Can Uysalel in San Diego! Really proud of them.
It was an honor contributing to the #STLE#TLTmagazine with an article on structural superlubricity.
Thank you to @STLE_Tribology for the opportunity and support!

Glad to host Prof. Mehmet Baykara (@BaykaraLab) for an exciting seminar at @UTDMaterialsSci
on "Atomic-resolution imaging of 2D electronic materials under ambient conditions."
Wrapping up 2025 with a cool paper in collaboration with Omur Dagdeviren's group 🥳🔬
We provide the first real-space measurement of energy variations associated with the Ehrlich-Schwoebel barrier across atomic step edges!

Paper out in Advanced Materials!
It was a pleasure to contribute to this work led by Furkan Turker from the group of Joshua Robinson at PSU, describing an atomically-thin dielectric: 2D indium oxide.
Special thanks to @GokayAdabasi!

Congratulations to lab members Andrew Grishko, Noah Kim, and Diego Garibay who received undergraduate research fellowships from the NSF-funded VISION (Venture for Innovation in Self-assembly and Integration of Optoelectronic Nanostructures) center @ucmerced 🥳🥳🥳
Applications are now open for the University of California President's Postdoctoral Fellowship Program (UC-PPFP).
Please contact me if you are interested in applying to this program and be a part of our research group @ucmerced, pushing the boundaries of AFM🔬 📖 🏅
Flexible smartphones. Ultra-efficient transistors. Wearable sensors.
All closer to reality thanks to a simple chemical treatment that makes MoS₂ stronger and more reliable. UC Merced researchers helped make it possible. 🔗 https://t.co/3gGXcKbftN
Paper out in @NatureComms!
It was a pleasure to collaborate with Tobin Filleter's group, using our atomic-resolution C-AFM to show chemical treatment leads to a drastic improvement in the electronic uniformity of monolayer MoS2 🔬
