Those Who Spent Years Asking for @MBuhari's Certificate Suddenly Conclude @officialABAT's Certificate Isn't Important?

The publication of @officialABAT's 2027 nomination form by @inecnigeria has once again thrown the nation into a heated debate. His Form EC9 lists only BSc degree from @ChicagoState, while the spaces for primary & secondary school qualifications remain conspicuously blank.

Yet the response from the very voices who once shook the foundations of @asovilladigital with their righteous fury has been nothing short of a masterclass in political somersaulting.

Where are the crusaders now? @renoomokri, who in 2018 spent sleepless nights demanding that Buhari produce his @waecnigeria certificate, who questioned whythe #CInC cld not simply order the military to release his documents, has now personally verified Tinubu's credentials at @ChicagoState. He has prostrated flat on the ground, apologised to the President, & dismissed all allegations of forgery. His DNA, he insists, hasn't changed. Only his principles have.

@officialKolaO, who as @OfficialPDPNig National Publicity Secretary in 2018 called the Buhari certificate saga the worst national embarrassment & accused the Presidency of manipulations, forgery & lies, has been conspicuously muted on Tinubu's blank spaces. The man who once thundered that the attestation lacked an original certificate number & was therefore of no effect now finds absolutely nothing wrong with a president who can't account for his primary & secondary education.

@OzekhomeMike, who in Jan 2015 filed a suit challenging Buhari's eligibility for lacking a WAEC certificate, now finds himself on the other side of the courtroom, charged by @NigeriaGov over alleged forgery of documents. The irony writes itself.

@oagbakoba, who in 2018 called the Buhari certificate matter a fairly serious matter that the court would have to interpret, has now called on lawyers & the media to stop the madness & allow @SupremeCourtNg to decide.

And what of the #LagosIbadanMedia, the self-appointed guardians of democratic accountability?

During the Buhari years, they were relentless.

@femiaribisala wrote President Buhari's Non-Existent School Certificate.

Akin Oladele penned Of Buhari's Refusal To Attach Certificate.

Editorial boards of @MobilePunch , @vanguardngrnews, & @THISDAYLIVE published front-page demands for Buhari to show his certificate.

Today, those same newspapers have reduced themselves to news reporters, merely quoting opposition politicians like Kalu Kalu & @realkenokonkwo, rather than leading the charge with their own editorial crusades. They've bn accused of unmasked hypocrisy & #DoubleStandards in their coverage of the President.

Critics argue that a leader from any other zone wld have faced a media onslaught. Instead, the narrative shifts, the questions soften, & the outrage evaporates.

As one commentator aptly observed, only in #Nigeria can someone be said not to have attended primary or secondary school, yet graduate from a university abroad & those asking questions become the problem.

A graduate from Kano, Lagos, Enugu or Port Harcourt will be denied employment because one certificate is missing.

A civil servant can lose a promotion because of incomplete documentation. Nobody tells them to rely on constitutional interpretation.

The rules are clear for the ordinary Nigerian.

Yet somehow, whenever the discussion concerns the political elite, the rules become elastic. If certificates are important, then they must be important for everybody.

There cannot be one Nigeria for the poor and another for the politically connected. That is not justice. That is privilege disguised as democracy. The nation is watching, & the nation is not amused.

As a Nigerian leaving in Manitoba, let me show you what the Canadian 🇨🇦 (and Manitoba) government is actually doing differently to ease the burden on ordinary people:

1. Just added 75,100 jobs in one month (unemployment at a 2-year low of 6.4%). Manitoba alone added almost 6,000.

2. Homeowners in Manitoba get up to a $1,600 property tax credit this year (rising again next year).

3. Canada Child Benefit increased up to $8,157 per young child (tax-free monthly support).

3. Rent Assist and housing benefits for low-income renters in Manitoba.

4. New Groceries & Essentials Benefit, extra cash for food and daily costs.

5. Cut the first income tax rate so middle-class families keep more of their pay.

6. Suspended federal fuel tax, cheaper gas at the pump, FHSA for first-time home buyers.

Reforms that don’t reduce the pain ordinary people feel every day are just theory.

Governments exist to make life more bearable for the masses, not to lecture them that they “don’t understand the level.”

Should leaders be asking this citizens “what would you do differently” while people are struggling or should they be solving the problem?

A Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Samuel Oyetoro, has been found murdered in Kogi State, Nigeria, after being attacked with a machete.

The priest's body was discovered by the roadside with severe machete wounds to the head. He served at St. Paul's Parish.

His killing comes amid Nigeria's long-running security crisis, where Christian communities, particularly in the north and Middle Belt, have repeatedly been targeted by Islamist groups such as Boko Haram and ISWAP, as well as Fulani Islamist militias. More than a thousand Christians have been murdered so far this year alone.

Credentialling in public and private endeavours, require full disclosure. No portion of critical personal or work history may be left vacant on work applications. If so, the credentials are deemed to be incomplete and therefore, unacceptable. How come INEC is bending its own rules on the omission of primary and secondary school qualifications on the EC9 Nomination Form for the APC candidate for the Nigerian presidency?

As a matter of public record, the documents published by INEC recently pursuant to its revised timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 General Election tells a sad story of public institutions becoming complicit in acts of deception. The Presidency tweeted the @officialEFCC statement at 8.50pm on Wednesday; then, the very next day at 1.15pm, the same Presidency tweeted that the President was unaware of EFCC’s action and had ordered that it be reversed.

I have followed with deep concern the developments surrounding the reported freezing of the bank accounts of the Osun State Government by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), coming just days before the governorship election.

Let me reiterate that I have always supported a relentless fight against corruption. However, that fight must never become a tool for political intimidation or the suppression of democracy. No institution, however important, should be used in a manner that creates the impression of influencing the electoral process.

The timing of this action raises legitimate questions. If investigations had been ongoing for months, why take such a drastic step on the eve of an election? In a democracy, institutions must not only be impartial but must also be seen to be impartial.

What is increasingly troubling is the growing perception that state institutions are being deployed to achieve political ends and secure power at all costs. This is dangerous for our democracy. Governments come and go, but once institutions lose their independence and credibility, the nation suffers.

If there is evidence of wrongdoing, the Constitution provides a clear path: seek the appropriate orders from a competent court. Due process is the foundation of justice. No agency should exercise powers beyond those granted by law.

I call on all relevant authorities to act strictly within the Constitution and ensure that nothing undermines the credibility of the Osun Governorship Election. The people of Osun must be allowed to freely determine their future through the ballot, without intimidation or institutional interference.

Nigeria’s democracy was built on sacrifice. We must not allow it to be weakened by the misuse of institutions or the pursuit of political advantage.
