Its #Tech4Wildlife week 2024 @WILDLABSNET! We use camera traps & machine learning to develop re-ID models to identify and monitor grizzly bears (and other bear species) from individuals to populations 1/n
[1/9] For the 2024 #Tech4Wildlife Photo Challenge I will highlight how we are bringing @bearid_project and other #Tech4WIldlife to Ecuador. Mary and I started collaborating with Dr. Becky Zug (left) from @USFQ_Ecuador last year and met for the first time in June at USFQ
Finally, camera traps provide us with a peek into the hidden life of #bears that many of us aren't lucky enough to see with our own eyes. Here is bear F015 Lillian, having a well earned rest by a rub tree. 6/6

Our fieldwork takes us to some incredible places, working with fantastic people and is rooted in the application of this #Tech4Wildlife for policy and management surrounding bear conservation and land use with @nanwakolas 5/n
Iโm heading to #EmbeddedWorld 2024 and hosting a Lightning Talk with @Arm ! Join me on April 9 for "Arm-ing Bears: Classifying and Identifying Bears on Low-Powered Edge Devices" in the Arm booth, Hall 4, Stand 504. See you there! More info: https://t.co/KEM8TzJrQM #ew24
We are coming to #EmbeddedWorld 2024. Find us at the @Arm booth for a Lightning Talk on the AI for Bears challenge and discover how participants developed ML models for two wildlife conservation projects.
Join us to see why wildlife conservation runs #onArm. #ew24

Camera traps are an essential tool in conservation monitoring and these were originally set up to help us count marmot individuals and family groups within the Besh-Aral State Nature Reserve.
We are super excited to be involved in this AI for Bears challenge with these fantastic partners!
Interested to contribute and build your skills in ML for bear conservation? See the link below, deadline Jan 24th!
Edge Impulse is honored to be part of the @bearid_project, with @Arm, @NXP, @fruitpunchai, and @hacktheplanet. Your challenge: "Create a small convolutional neural network that accurately identifies the presence of a bear on edge hardware."

Tech Impacts is an especially important category because it recognizes how #Tech4Wildlife tools and projects make a real difference around the world. Congratulations to this year's honorees @takapodigs, @bearid_project, @IcasWild, Wolf Fish, and Muongeni Tamara Manda.
Delighted that the judging panel ranked our project runner up in the Tech Impacts category! Agreeing with the community choice! Fantastic to see that our community are keen to learn about the impacts of this type of tech. This will help spur us on this year! Thanks @WILDLABSNET!
@takapodigs@bearid_project@IcasWild And our judges and #tech4wildlife community alike recognized the impact of runner-up @bearid_project's work, as they discussed how their popular AI method for individual bear identification can empower regional conservation efforts, build connections, and inform decision-making.
Tomorrow (Aug. 4) I'll be presenting an AWS ML Heroes in 15 session about Amazon Rekognition and how it can be used to build computer vision applications quickly. Of course it will include bears. ๐ป https://t.co/D9L2WX5afj
I am honored to be runner-up in the #Tech4Wildlife Community Choice Awards for Species Spotlight hosted by @WILDLABSNET. Many thanks to the ๐ป, whose fluffy-ness, enabled me to make it this far! :)
