More mounding completed at another #woodland creation site over the weekend - by the man, the legend himself @benjaminjmiller
Not many capable of mounding by moonlight but he'll do what it takes to get the job done! 😅
Great work and looking forward to getting some trees in 💪
Just heard from a notable client that they have decided to remove 80 ha from 110 ha new woodland creation.
Essentially the process has taken so long, they have decided to go and do other things with the land. We are 18 months in and should still plant some areas this winter. 1/
#NorthEast foresters, wanderers and wood lovers... @royal_forestry Society NE branch extends an invite for non-members to join an evening visit to Thistle Wood, near Medomsley, followed by buffet meal and talk by @woods4thetrees Max Adams on July 27th 2023.

Out in the woods at the weekend. Marking up trees to widen access track and checking larch poles, peeled earlier in the year for some construction projects. Nice to be doing some proper #forestry for a change!
Looking forward to welcoming delegates to the glorious Whitfield Estate on Friday, where we will be taking a group of #foresters around woodland and moorland edge with expert guide Keith Buchanan.
The event is designed to help with ID and understanding diff habitat requirements:
Sad to see this range of smaller forwarders being killed off due to low demand - this is exactly the type of machine Estate managers need to carry out early thinning with low impact, tidy bits of blow and reach places off limits to big forwarders. @JackMHaugh@WoollyMaggot
This relatively modest but locally distinctive ash tree is within a planned area of new woodland. It will feature at the centre of an open glade, with grass rides/paths leading toward it and emphasising it as a feature in the changing landscape. #thicktrunktuesday
Earlier in the year I posted about a native woodland creation scheme in the North Pennines, rejected due to concerns over golden plover feeding habitat. He has now written a blog post about the scheme: https://t.co/eWo93frnEc which we are appealing to the new Secretary of State.

With his background in Int'l Trade, @ranil should also be familiar with UK dependence on timber imports. To start a #greengrowth revolution, we need to ensure trees planted today can be utilised by future generations and make use of the land least suited to growing food. 🌱🌲🌲🐏
