Trump’s “Ukraine” plan is not a peace plan. Like all his plans it is a grossly 1-sided pact cooked up with a strong man (with commercial deals on the side). It betrays Ukraine, the Western alliance and our most fundamental values. When are we going to admit what is happening?
And finally - Lesson 2 - from the "lost month", as Baroness Hallett so vividly describes it - February 2020:
If you can't be arsed to do your job even as a deadly pandemic grips the world, you certainly don't deserve to be within a thousand miles of Downing Street.

The lady at the charity shop today told me that she wishes people would clear out their children's old toys in the lead up to Christmas rather than after because she always sees a number of parents in the days before Christmas looking for toys for their little ones who might be strapped for cash. She said there's very rarely anything in just before, but that they get inundated with toys in the days after.
And it really made me think about it in a way I never would have before.
If you know your child is going to get lots of presents from Father Christmas this year, by clearing out your cupboards a few days early, you could make another child's Christmas a lot more special too.
Saw this & thought I'd repost.
£8 for a jar of coffee
£12 for bottle of olive oil
£20 spent on just two items of food.
UK supermarket food prices are out of control. Everyone is saying the same thing.
I must have spoken to well over 100 headteachers across the country recently and they're all saying the same things:
Many, many more pupils with complex SEND needs.
More challenging behaviour and at a younger age.
Too little specialist provision.
Frustrated families.
Social Services bar too high.
Public services skint and burnt out staff.
No real Ofsted reform.
Falling birth rates.
People are angry.
Communities in despair.
Funding that’s nowhere near enough.
Schools are holding the system together but it’s becoming unsustainable - they can't keep asking more and more of staff, with less and less. Something has to give.
Without urgent reform and real investment, I'm worried that this could be the year we've all known was coming and education finally breaks.

As thousands of year 7s begin their journeys tomorrow, here’s some thoughts from someone who is a former year 6 teacher, current secondary school teacher and transition coordinator 🧵🪡
Great things happen when you read with your baby.
First, their vocabulary explodes. Books are fantastic for introducing your little one to new and varied language.
Second, they begin to associate reading as a pleasurable activity. Not only is it fun, but it’s something special to be done with YOU.
And even before they’re exposed to formal instruction, your baby will begin cracking the code of written literacy - learning important basics/concepts that will scaffold their later success.
I just love this short video, shared to IG by alyssakatejohnson.
In an effort to usher in naptime, mom and dad have removed the board books from this little one’s crib. But that doesn’t stop our hero.
She manages to find herself a “book” - reading the laundry instruction tags sewn to her blanket.
Note, btw, that she orients the “book” correctly, already showing an awareness of print’s directionality.
Of course we don’t learn to read by example alone, but - taken in combination - baby’s expanded vocabulary, identification of reading as pleasurable, and early understanding of how print works will all give her a leg up when it comes time for more formal instruction.
She’s already putting the most important factor on display: a desire to read.
Almost everyone who works in a primary school accepts that the current curriculum is overloaded. We simply can't squeeze in everything we're supposed to. However, there are two things we must try and ensure take place each day: independent reading and class storytime.
Want to give your child a leg up in kindergarten (and life)?
Expose them to a million extra words. It’s easier than it sounds.
I wrote recently about the vocabulary building power of reading aloud to your child.
Books expose children to new worlds through their storytelling - and with those new worlds come new WORDS. Words that you may not have had occasion to use otherwise.
Reading develops this vocabulary quality in part through vocabulary quantity.
A recent study from Ohio State University suggests that children who are read five books a day from infancy will be exposed to 1.4 million more words by kindergarten than those who lack this advantage.
If five books seems like a lot, rest assured that there’s advantage to any reading at all. Children read a single book a day will benefit to the tune of 290,000 more words.
A rich vocabulary lends itself to explosive reading growth when the time comes. That’s because you can’t truly decode words you don’t know.
So read, read, read with your little one. You’ll be amazed by the return on investment.

How do you deflect attention away from your own gross incompetence?
Easy by blaming the victims, lesson 1,752.
Water companies are required by law to plan and prepare for drought, to ensure that our taps can be kept running. But they've never really had a plan, in fact the only real suggestion put forward is to drain the nearest river dry, there never was and still isn't a Plan B.
Oh and the govt body charged with approving and signing off on these 'emergency' measures, yep, that of course would be the @EnvAgency.
So the National Drought Group met this week to "address 'nationally significant' water shortfall". Their response, blame the customers, their advice, to tell you to "Delete old emails and pictures as data centres require vast amounts of water to cool their systems."
I sh*t you not. The world has finally fallen off its hinges.
