These are not just old saddles gathering dust in a forgotten corner of history.
Look closer.
Each one once rested on the back of a living, breathing animal that never asked to be there. A horse that knew nothing of Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin, or the frozen hell that was Stalingrad. A horse that simply followed, because that is what horses do. They trust. They serve. They endure.
Romanian cavalrymen rode these animals into one of the most savage battles ever fought by human hands. The temperatures dropped to minus 40. The ground turned to iron. Men wept and horses collapsed, and the war kept moving anyway.
More than 6 million horses served on the Eastern Front during World War II. They hauled artillery through blizzards. They carried the wounded across open ground under fire. They pressed forward across frozen steppes until their legs simply gave out beneath them.
And when they fell, nobody came.
No burial. No name. No record. They were left exactly where they dropped, swallowed by snow and silence.
This photograph feels like the cemetery they never received. Every worn saddle is a nameless tombstone for a soul that once ran free, once breathed clouds of steam into the winter air, once gave everything it had to a war it never understood.
We remember the generals. We remember the battles. We carve names into stone walls.
But the horses? They got nothing.
Until now. Remember them.

You could offer me footballer wages or any incentive in the world to stop helping dogs and I'd say no.
Nothing in the world beats sitting with Sienna tonight in her new bandana 5 months after she came in totally broken telling her about her new family home.
Priceless feeling
💔THE SAD REALITY OF SMALL, INDEPENDENT RESCUES - ANOTHER FANTASTIC RESCUE HAVING TO CLOSE💔
We've just been informed that due to lack of donations & funds that Second Chances Animal Sanctuary based in #Ceredigion #wales will be closing its doors for good once all their dogs & other animals are rehomed
https://t.co/0ABk7APxQN
Text taken from their FB post👇
"It is with the deepest regret that I have to share some heartbreaking news.
Due to a severe lack of funds, we are no longer able to continue operating Second Chances Animal Sanctuary as we have been. This decision has not been made lightly, and it comes after exhausting every possible option.
Please know that the animals currently in our care will continue to be loved, cared for, and supported until we find them safe and suitable forever homes. They remain our absolute priority.
However, it breaks my heart to say that we are no longer able to take in any more animals in need.
Thank you to everyone who has supported us, believed in us, and stood by us. (If a miracle happens, I will absolutely let you know straight away). Your kindness has meant everything—not just to me, but to every animal we’ve been able to help.
This isn’t how I ever wanted things to end, but right now, it’s the reality we are facing 💔"
They currently have 16 dogs. These guys take in the large breed dogs that many rescues shy away from. Please remember there are always dogs in the background that aren't ready to be rehomed yet. Second Chances will still have running costs (food, Vet care, meds, day to day costs) until every animal is rehomed
If anyone can donate to help them, please click on the links below or see bank details at the bottom of the post

Seven dogs stolen from their owners have gone viral after escaping from an illegal transport truck and making their way home.
They traveled around 17 km together, led by a corgi across highways and fields, now safely back with their respective owners..🐶🐾🥺❤️
Please retweet to help Roxy find a home within 1 hour of #LIVERPOOL#UK Saved from a council pound!
A SPECIAL FOREVER HOME NEEDED 💔💔💔
Breed; Akita Age; 6 Years; Female, totally blind
Background; She came to us from the local pound.
Personality; Roxy is an extremely friendly girl, who loves her cuddles. She copes well with being blind. She LOVES her food, so needs to make sure that she doesn't have access to help herself to any food or treats.
Left alone; We think she will be ok to left alone for up to 6 hours.
House training; She is a very clean girl.
Travelling; Travels well.
🏃 Exercise; Roxy is very active, so would love going on regular walks.
Adopter requirements: Anyone with Akita or large breed experience would be ideal. You don't necessarily need prior experience of blind dogs, but have lots of kindness and empathy to care for Roxy correctly. Keeping your home layout the same is a great way to help her settle in.
Home/garden needs; A private, secure garden.
Minimum age of children; 14 years +.
Dog/Cat suitability: We think she would be best as on only pet, but could possibly live with an older, calm, neutered male dog. Is it unknown how she is with cats.
Medical issues; Roxy is completely blind due to uveodermatological disease, and has had her eyes surgically removed (to stop them causing her any future pain). The uveodermatological disease will not be able to be covered by pet insurance, so any potential adopters need to be aware of this, and she is likely to need a small dose of steroids to maintain the condition of her skin.
All our dogs are neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, parasite treated and come with 5 weeks free insurance.
If you live within an hour of L31, please complete an adoption application form to enquire with AS MUCH INFO as possible;
https://t.co/j8YhslTMGI
Telephone interview, home visit, meet and greet(s) and adoption fee also apply.

Please retweet to help find the owner or information about this stray dog #HEREFORD#LEOMINSTER#UK
Does anyone recognise this girl?
Known as KARMA from the Hereford/Leominster area.
She was found as a stray over a week ago in Herefordshire.
We have been waiting for the registered keeper to claim her back all week, as that is what we were led to believe, to now find out that this person rehomed her over 12 months ago and doesn’t actually want her back after all.
Please share in case there is a genuine owner out there that has lost her.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Please share- Hereford and Worcester Dog Rescue

“Rescuing Buttons has been the best decision we’ve ever made. She brings so much happiness to our lives and everyone she meets.
We’re so lucky to have her. We’re obsessed. I thoroughly recommend adopting a homeless dog”

Please retweet to help Lulu find a home- she's been overlooked #YORKSHIRE#UK
Registered British Charity ✅
Details or apply for Lulu below👇
https://t.co/mJulJhUkNy
Lulu has recently suffered heartbreak and needs to find a family to help her restart her life . her world recently turned upside down when her owner passed away, and she ended up in Police kennels - she was understandably totally terrified.
Lulu is only 2.5 yrs old and has clearly led a sheltered life and has lost all she has ever known, so she is very timid at first of new people and will hide from them … but then once she has bonded, she clings to her ‘person’ and panics when she’s left alone - which is all totally understandable given what she’s been through.
She is so sweet, and has never once been grumbly or snappy (even with the vet!)
As she’s only young, she’s full of beans and LOVES her walks - she’s very active and those little legs can cover some ground! In the house she loves playing with her teddies, doing zoomies and being as close to her human as possible at all times!!
We need to find Lulu a home who want to help her be her best self , a family who can help give her the self confidence she really lacks - working with separation anxiety isn’t a quick fix so she will need lots of time and patience to help her.
She’d be amazing putting her paw to some dog activities too to use her clever brain and her busy little legs - she’s bright as a button and this would help with her confidence.
Lulu is an amazing little dog (8kg) - we feel that small breeds don’t get enough credit for how incredible they are . They’re not ‘just’ lapdogs!! Lulu is bright, active, full of personality, SO loving, hilarious, sensitive, in great health and has SO much love to give her new family - please don’t overlook her because she’s a little one.

SADLY, THEIR OWNER HAS PASSED AWAY💔💔💔
They have had no applications
Frank & Betty – We’re Begging Now 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
We don’t know what else to do. We’ve shared and shared, we’ve written their story over and over — and still not a single application. These two beautiful Shar Pei siblings have been waiting for months, and it feels like nobody is listening. It’s breaking our hearts.
Their foster mum has gone above and beyond for them, but she can’t keep holding on forever. She needs to return to her own little rescue dog. Frank & Betty need a home now.
Frank & Betty (3 years old)
They’ve lost their mum. They’ve lost their home. All they’ve had left is each other. They are completely bonded — always curled up together, grooming each other, or play-fighting like the big, goofy “bears” they are.
Frank – A goofy, food-obsessed teddy bear who makes funny noises for attention, does his happy dance when excited, and lives for squeaky toys.
Betty – A shy, gentle sweetheart who paws quietly for affection. Once she trusts you, she’ll curl up right beside you. Outdoors is her happy place — pottering around the garden or exploring a secure dog field.
🐶 At Home
Big cuddle bugs who think your sofa (and bed) are theirs.
Loving, loyal, and happy just to watch the world go by from the window.
Can be left for a few hours (up to 5), but they’d much rather be with you.
No cats or small children
🐶 What They Need
A calm, patient home with a secure garden.
A big-hearted person (or family) willing to adopt a bonded pair.
Openness around their stage 2 kidney disease — but please don’t let this put you off. They are thriving on their special diet, the charity covers all medical costs, and their foster mum has even offered to help fundraise and cover holidays.
They’re only 3 years old. They have so much love and life to give. We can’t believe they’re still waiting — and it’s devastating to think they might never get their chance.
💙 Please, if you could be Frank & Betty’s forever family, message the page for an application form.
If you can’t foster, please share. Every share could be the one that finally changes their lives.
Please share wherever you are so that someone who can help sees this 💙💙💙

In Sweden, kindness isn’t just a feeling — it’s a law. One of the most surprising rules is that you cannot leave your dog alone at home for more than 6 hours. Why? Because Swedish science strongly supports the idea that animals experience loneliness, stress, and emotional discomfort just like humans do. This law was created to protect dogs from silent suffering that most people never notice. It’s a beautiful reminder that kindness begins at home — and even our pets deserve emotional care.
Researchers in Sweden found that a dog’s stress levels rise significantly when left alone for too long. Their heartbeat patterns change, anxiety increases, and some dogs may even develop long-term trauma. That’s why Sweden treats pets not as property, but as family members with feelings, needs, and rights. This rule encourages people to build stronger bonds, spend more time outdoors, and prioritize companionship over convenience.
This small but powerful law is now inspiring conversations around the world. It shows that a nation becomes truly advanced not only by technology but also by compassion. Imagine a world where every country cared this deeply about the happiness of animals — where science, empathy, and responsibility worked together. Sweden is proving that progress is not always about inventions… sometimes, it’s about love.
