The first time I heard the word black tax was on a ISWIS podcast in 2020
I think vunderkind was the guest on that episode
and he spoke brilliantly about his experience as a moving man with inherited responsibilities
black tax in my opinion is not a cultural thing or but a human thing
Entitlement is in everyoneās DNA regardless of race or color
Itās you as a moving man that has to learn how to navigate the problem without attracting more problems
Giving away all your money is a problem but simply saying āNoā can become a bigger problem
It has to be systematic
If giving away 10 naira would hurt you, donāt give anyone the impression that you have 100 naira
Asking you for money is them subconsciously tilting the scale towards equilibrium
All you have to do is create the illusion that the scale is balanced I.e you donāt have more money than they have
Until your success is too big to hide, stay lowkey and build.
Nobody talks about the awkward phase of building wealth. Where you're earning more but still can't show it because the money is going into investments, emergency funds and clearing debt. You look the same outside but everything is changing underneath. Stay in that phase. It's working.
Not the big āI was crying every dayā depression. The quiet kind where you keep functioning, keep replying, keep showing up, keep making jokes, keep paying bills, and you donāt even realize how dead your inner world got until something turns the lights back on and youāre standing there like⦠oh. This is what it feels like when the room has oxygen.
Eight weeks in and suddenly youāre saying ācoffee is goodā like you just discovered fire.
it sounds funny, until you remember what it takes to make a person forget that coffee tastes good. Like, that is not a minor glitch. your brain being so starved of reward and softness that even basic pleasures stopped landing. Not āsad.ā More like muted. Flat. Everything technically fine, but nothing hits. You could have a decent day and it would still feel like chewing cardboard.
I feel you
Youāre in your kitchen at some normal time, 09:14, light coming in through the window, and you pour coffee and you catch the smell and for the first time in a long time it actually registers as pleasant. Not intellectually. In the body. You take a sip and thereās that small warm yes. Your shoulders drop without you asking them to. And you just stand there holding the mug like itās proof of something.
Because it is.
proof you were way more depressed than you admitted to yourself.
Depression lies by making itself feel like your personality. It makes gray feel normal. It makes āI donāt careā feel like maturity. It makes numb feel like stability. It makes survival feel like a lifestyle. And because youāre still working, still talking, still laughing at the right moments, nobody panics. You donāt panic either. You just assume this is adulthood now. This is what it feels like to be ārealistic.ā
Then medication works, or sleep improves, or the fog lifts for whatever reason, and you realize you were living in a version of reality that was missing whole colors.
you start noticing tiny things and it feels almost embarrassing.
A song hits harder. Food tastes like something. The shower feels good instead of just a chore. You walk into your house and you get that weird thought, I love my house. Not because it is a mansion. Not because it is perfect. Just because itās yours and it holds you. That thought lands and you almost want to cry because you realize youāve been living in the same place for months like it was a waiting room.
specific grief in that.
Grief for the weeks where you were alive but not really in your own life. Grief for the version of you who couldnāt feel any of this and still kept going. Grief for how normal it felt to move through your days without pleasure, like you were built to endure rather than enjoy.
rage hiding under it.
Like, wait. So this whole time I was judging myself for not being grateful, not motivated, not disciplined, not present, when my brain chemistry was literally preventing my reward system from doing its job. I was blaming my character for a physiological state.
cruelest part of functional depression. It doesnāt come with a dramatic signal. It comes with a slow theft. You do not notice the water boiling because it boils one degree at a time.
Then one day youāre like, ācoffee is good.ā
And you realize you were in hell.
no the fire and screaming hell. The beige hell. The hell of ānothing matters but Iāll still do everything Iām supposed to.ā The hell of answering texts like customer support. The hell of living in a house you donāt feel. The hell of having friends you love but being unable to access the feeling of loving them. The hell of being technically fine while your inner self is quietly starving.
that it captures how simple the return is.
Itās not āI found my purpose.ā
Itās ālife can be enjoyable.ā
the actual miracle. Not the motivational poster stuff. Just enjoyment returning like a muscle you thought you lost.
it can feel almost manic at first, not in a clinical sense, just in contrast. Like, why am I smiling at a tree. š
A lot of people live for years while being passively suicidal. They go to work, laugh at jokes, show up for others while carrying a low, constant wish for relief that doesnāt require them to actively choose death. Itās the state of not exactly wanting to die but also not
I wish I didnāt have to write this, but I do.
I recently lost someone I once worked with. Not to illness or accident⦠he chose to leave. And it shook me.
What hit me hardest wasnāt just the loss - it was realizing how quiet suffering can be.
How someone can show up, do the work, smile⦠and still be fighting a storm alone.
It reminded me how invisible pain can be.
So if youāre reading this and youāre tired - deeply tired - please hear this from a place of love:
Ending your life doesnāt end the pain.
It hands it over to the people who care about you⦠the ones who will replay your name, your voice, your last interaction, forever wondering what they missed.
Youāre not weak for feeling overwhelmed. Youāre human. And you matter more than you realize.
You donāt need all the answers right now.
Just do one thing:
tell one safe person how bad it really is, ask for help (that is strength, not failure) and stay (even if all you can do today is breathe).
This pain feels permanent, but it isnāt.
Your story isnāt over yet.
Please stay.
You matter more than you know.ā¤ļø

i never answered to why i paused making this type of food content; i genuinely enjoyed clearing up over 5 different meals regularly until my body told me.
even though i had an active lifestyle at the time and tried to stay fit , i lost the concept of moderation as mindless binge eating became the OOTD even when i wasnāt creating content. i wouldnāt stop eating until i started to feel abdominal discomfort.
despite being full asl , i always wanted to keep eating! gluttony had made its way.
asides the general discomfort , heart palpitations, excess weight gain , irregular sleep , sneaky high blood pressure count, constant fatigue and so on⦠the mental battle to beat gluttony is probably the hardest thing to deal with.
I canāt express how disrespectful gluttony is and how much power it holds but itās mad underrated. Itās 2 years after and i still chat to the pit in my tummy. š
If you struggle with COMPULSIVE EATING DISORDER , shout out you. pay attention, iām no health practitioner but donāt underplay it.
iāll still make food content but definitely not in such volume.
Love, Kine. šš¤
Let me say one key thing about money:
You donāt make money by investing. You make money by building a business or creating value at a good job.
Once you've made that money, you grow it via investments.
You make money with WORK, not INVESTMENTS.
The real take home from this Olympics and the blatant blasphemy against the Christian religion is a lesson for those who still sit on the fence.
If you still donāt wake up, and believe in Jesus, the joke is on you.
What will be your excuse at the end?
Did the devil not show you enough?
Did he not show you that many secular platforms have an underlying agenda?
Call the devil names, but at least, he wasnāt hypocritical.
If all of these doesnāt get you thinking, the joke is on you.
Enjoy the games

Social anxiety is not just worrying a little bit before a party or an interview. Itās once intense fear of how people will perceive you or, even worse, that you have no control over how they perceive you at all. Itās as if walking into a room and sensing that every set of eyes is sizing you up, and every whisper is judging you. People with social anxiety face just that many times a day.
Itās as if the brain is on high alert and consistently tags every social experience as a threat. Your heart rate increases, and your mind starts racing ā itās tiring. Furthermore, itās not about ābeing shy.ā Itās being afraid that anything you say, anything you do might eventually result in humiliation or mockery.
Sometimes, this anxiety has a genesis ā something happened at a particular moment, and it was so terrible that it left a scar. BUT, it might be that it is just your mind pretending to have a reason ready and amplifying your normal worries as if to make them scream so loudly that you canāt keep silent. It is difficult, because, at that moment, you are the one that isolated yourself inside a bubble which you created, and you are both the prisoner and the guard.
What really bites is how misunderstood this can be. It can be viewed by others as an overreaction or as an aspiration to shine in the limelight, but the desire is not to shine but not to be subjected to the beamed and the dissected. And it is not only a question of hardening the face. It often takes more to crush this wall, it requires comprehension, assistance, and even professional help to defeat and disperse these fears, which have grown deep into the roots of the mind.
