@taygoldenstein@lmcgaughy Literally insane! Need someone to look into how much school districts make off of records requests. Fort Bend ISD once told me my request for emails would cost millions lol
Anyways, I just finished listening to #Hysterical by @dtaberski and loved it! I’ve already commandeered dinner conversations to recount examples of mass hysteria. Endlessly fascinating and uniquely human 🤔
Narrative podcasts still feature some of the best nonfiction storytelling happening today. "Hysterical"--which examines a mysterious illness that broke out among high school girls in upstate NY in 2011--is exceptional. By the always excellent @dtaberski.

The worst thing about the downfall of this hellsite is that it’s become really hard to share and find good journalism 😔 I miss the community we had here
Somehow it's been a year since we released the last episode of @SugarLandPod.
If you haven't listened yet, I'd be honored if you gave it some time in your ears.
The first episode is here ⬇️ And all 8 eps are available wherever you get your podcasts.

This is the craziest story. CenterPoint is like, “we need generators to get power back quickly during big outages! Let’s spend $800m to LEASE some (they don’t even own them!!) and then NOT use them for that stated purpose when the power goes out.”
NEW: CenterPoint spent $800M on 20 generators after the big freeze & rolling blackouts of 2021. The company claimed they would help during extended power outages.
So where are they post-Beryl?
Turns out almost none of them have been deployed. W/@mmorris011 https://t.co/Kllk1GoJ8s
Hooray! The @SugarLandPod won a Regional Murrow Award!
If you haven't listened yet, just search for "Sugar Land" on your podcast player of choice.
Thanks to @RTDNA for the recognition!

When will your power be back? @CenterPoint Energy just sent out a map of estimated dates for restoration. They also said they expect around 80 percent of impacted customers to have power by tomorrow evening.

It’s not in your head. We have so many Texas “press officers” drawing taxpayer-funded salaries who refuse to discuss, answer questions or explain their respective agency’s policy or intent.
More unethical shenanigans from Gannett:
These two stories from @DandC & @statesman are nearly word-for-word identical, yet each story claims to have been written by the local paper.
Plagiarism? Who wrote the article? And why is one of the papers lying about who wrote it?
.@Statesman journalists just ended a four-day ULP strike in protest of @Gannett’s bad-faith bargaining. Here are the unethical & embarassing ways @Statesman management & @Gannett tried to cover up our absence from the paper, misrepresenting & creating errors as they did. 🧵
