@jimsweatshirt Malicks gunna reveal that during his 20 year hiatus, he was actually adapting the entire steinbeck universe and will release them all in batches over the next 9 years
@billyswong@Shrekonomical@lebigbobthorton@panarthropod@JustDeficient “Full of” has denotative and connotative definitions that isnt likely being used accurately when referring to small fractions of a specified human population. Hence “inflammatory”, as “full” and “all” dont need to be synonymous to play a similar role in the examples above.
@ilovemilkcakes Though i disagree with it, i respect the honesty. Kagemusha is a longer film, but i enjoyed it more than i did ran, have you ever seen that? Its very similar to Barry Lyndon in ways im willing to lay out to you, but id recommend seeing it yourself!
@Shrekonomical@lebigbobthorton@panarthropod@JustDeficient The “full of” this the “bailey”, its inflammatory, and by most interpretations and in most contexts, wrong. “Full of” has an agreed upon definition, and when you challenge the arguers use of it as inaccurate, the arguer will fall back on whatever “motte” they come up with.
@lebigbobthorton@panarthropod@JustDeficient Its the same fallacy: the inflammatory statement is meant to allude to or include you; “your community” and “all of [your group]”, and then, when the subject feels targeted, you fall back on a more agreeable and less inflammatory statement/argument. See: Motte-and-Bailey
@Zwiebelfee Ive always hated the “but the states are so different” excuse some of us use. If i say my state prior to my country (depends on context whether i do or dont) its just for conversational efficiency, not because i believe myself to be so much more different than a “californian”
@TrafalgarrWater considering half of the replies failed to understand the concept of a hypothetical, it wasnt anyone of intelligence who was arguing against you😭😭
@cigarrism Ill need a rewatch but my main critique was aabout its unwillingness to sit on certain scenes, and i was really excited about a rumord directors cut that apparently had an extra 13 minutes or so. I havent heard much from it since tho so idk if its availble or not
@BoneJail Reminds me of my room mate asking to scroll through my insta feed when insta apparently had this gore and car crash issue but all the videos he found on my feed were normal
@femboxd Its just proactively wearing a label that they wouldve been hit with anyway. If someone has a take on films that they know they’ll be labeled as “pretentious” for, then they’ll simply claim the label before it can be used as a pejorative. They aren’t actually proud of it
