Some people complain about the garbage on their riverbanks. Others quit their MNC jobs, move back home, and start picking it up.
Meet Shubham Kumar — engineer, founder of Being Helper Foundation, and the man behind 1.4 lakh kilograms of plastic removed from the Ganga.
What started as a lonely Sunday ritual — gloves on, bags in hand — has become a movement of over 1,100 volunteers. The results speak for themselves:
📷 98% drop in thermacol waste at Patna's ghats
📷 42 safe changing rooms for women across 16 ghats
📷 16,000+ livelihoods revived
📷 1.63 lakh plastic bottles repurposed to protect 50,000 plants
Cities do not transform overnight. They transform when someone shows up. Every single Sunday. Until the job is done.

And if this moved you, share it. Because the only thing more powerful than one man bending down is a thousand realizing they can too.

Being Helper Foundation

Every day, thousands of people step onto railway platforms carrying bags, hopes, worries, and destinations.
But too often, they leave behind something else: litter.
Recently, volunteers from Being Helper Foundation, Bihar's largest youth community, decided to do something about it.
Instead of walking past overflowing corners and discarded packets, they stopped to speak with commuters, encouraged them to use dustbins, and led by example by cleaning up juice cups, wrappers, and other waste scattered across the platform.
Slowly, something changed.
People listened. Some paused. Others joined in.
Because clean railway stations are not created by cleaners alone. They are created when ordinary citizens choose to take responsibility for the spaces they share.

Under the #MissionCivicSense campaign, Being Helper Foundation removed more than 3500+ kg of waste from the river near Pul Ghat , Vaishali District and handed it over to the Hajipur Nagar Parishad for proper disposal.
Small actions, big impact for our rivers and environment. 🌿
At sunrise, the ghats of the Ganga in Patna look serene. Priests prepare for prayers. Devotees gather quietly.
But for years, another sight greeted the river too. Thermocol plates drifting in the water. Plastic glasses crushed underfoot. Garbage piling up where faith meets the river.
Many complained.
One engineer picked up a bag.
After working outside Bihar for four years, Shubham Kumar returned home and chose action over criticism. Every Sunday, he reached the ghats with gloves and sacks and began the Ganga Ghat Safai Abhiyaan.
In the beginning, only a few volunteers joined him. Some even mocked the effort. But Shubham kept returning week after week.
Slowly, the movement grew. Today, more than 1,100 volunteers have joined the mission. Together, they have removed over 1.43 lakh kilograms of plastic waste and recycled more than 2 lakh plastic bottles from Patna’s ghats.
