KEY UPDATE: Police have introduced a major dispersal order covering much of Southend, as groups of youths continue to arrive on trains for a ‘beach party’ on the seafront.

It covers of the Southend district south of the A13, as well as several areas in the city centre north of the A13.

The orders that give police more powers to disperse and stop or search people will remain in place until 9.30am Thursday 28 May.

There is a heavy police presence at multiple locations around the city, including at Prittlewell and Southend Victoria train stations.

Officers are also able to use Section 60 powers which allow them to stop and search individuals - without suspicion - in the designated area to prevent serious violence and the carrying of weapons.

In addition, Section 60AA powers may be used to require the removal of face coverings where they are being worn to conceal identity. Essex Police says the powers will be used proactively to keep people safe.

The force is aiming to reassure and keep the public safe with this significant and highly visible policing presence across the city, which is being supported by live facial recognition technology, CCTV operators and Community Safety partners.

Just back from 2 days away ticking off Good Beer Guide pubs in Lincolnshire, Cambridgeshire, and Hertfordshire. My first visit to Grantham in years , and first ever visits to Huntingdon and Hertford , the latter being a most beautiful town. The mercury touched 90 today !
