When you watch the Super Bowl halftime show tonight, know that "In Living Color" helped make it what it is.
In 1992, the show aired live counter-programming during halftime -- and pulled millions away from the game. A year later, the NFL responded by booking Michael Jackson -- launching the modern, superstar halftime show era.
It's among the stories explored in my book about the legacy of Black comedy, "Black Out Loud." Pre-order at https://t.co/q2D6PeM33j!

Law 9: Win Through Your Actions, Never Through Argument
Victory gained through argument or verbal persuasion is fleeting and often breeds resentment.
Even if you logically "win" a debate, the loser feels humiliated, inferior, or coerced, which plants seeds of bitterness that will undermine your triumph later.
People cling to their beliefs emotionally, not rationally.
No amount of eloquent reasoning will truly change their minds if their ego is invested in the opposite view.
Arguments create enemies disguised as converts.
True and lasting power comes from demonstration, not explanation.
Actions, results, and tangible success will silence doubters far more effectively than any speech.
When you produce undeniable outcomes, others are forced to acknowledge your superiority without feeling personally attacked.
They bow not because you convinced them, but because reality itself has done the convincing.
This method leaves their pride intact and turns them into willing admirers rather than grudging opponents.
A general who crushes the enemy on the battlefield needs no lengthy justification for his strategy.
A merchant whose innovations make him rich inspires imitation without ever lecturing rivals.
An artist whose work revolutionizes a genre converts the public through sheer impact.
Those who rely on argument are often insecure about their position and waste energy defending it verbally.
The truly powerful remain quiet and let their deeds speak so loudly that no one can hear the criticism.
