@Socdem_Michael@2MINIHULK We need Misa or Cherny taking lessons from Wenneberg or spend a summer with Pavs. One of these guys needs to be that next net front guy.
@DobberHockey@donkitrk99 Was inconsistent for sure, but hard to judge him when you only have 2 lines capable of playing 2 way hockey and the worst D in the league.
Hope this year picks up for him.
@SennaGPWC@DJ_Bean Will be tough, but sharks have 46M in cap space right now. Celebrini, Smith, and Graf should eat about 35M of that.
Need to figure out about 3 other guys with the remaining 11M
But we also have $20M freeing up end of this year between Couture, Orlov, Goodrow, Gaudette.
@jason__burke@SatiarShah Yeah, we won’t be able to afford to keep this roster after Cele, Smith, Misa, Stenberg, Graf, Dickinson contracts come due.
Luckily Couture’s 8M and Goodrow’s 4M contract expires end of this season.
@SatiarShah Smith, Dickinson, Ravensberg, Cherny, Musty.
We will also likely see some of young defenders who have been developing get their shot this year. (Sahlin-Wallenius, Cagnoni, Pohlkamp)
@HawksSposFins@TacTixHD This is crazy. Getting 2 was luck, but Grier got a 27th and NHLer from Buffalo, then turned that 27th into Lin (projected top 10).
He also flipped Eklund for 9 and got the D-man he wanted 2nd overall for a bargain.
It isn’t like he just walked in the door with a 2, 9, and 21.
@Cosmicneurons13@TacTixHD I don’t think we see sharks do anything crazy this year.
This season is not the push year, it will be next year. Let Stenberg, and some of the pipeline guys learn the NHL and then see where your needs are.
@BlueJayZ4life@passittobulis Truly lucked out, but GMMG made all the right moves to capitalize on what is likely his last top 10 draft pick in a decade.
Got a Defenseman who can start now, filled the pipeline with 2 projected top 10 right hand Defenseman and upgraded his top two lines by grabbing Stenberg.
@GGP321@doaner1976 Sharks did essentially the same. Now that leafs have a future 1C they need to really try to get a young haul for Matthews/Domi to really start the rebuild.
Grier just went out and got another top 10 pick knowing that there are 5 solid D men and one will fall to 9.
@MrMubus@doaner1976@Chronolxgical McKenna is very good and has a very high ceiling. Could go insanely well with the right development.
Right now Stenberg is elite. Not as high of a ceiling but you know you are getting a puck handler who can pass at elite levels and that is terrifying beside Smith/Cele.
@doaner1976@chef4131 Yeah, not terribly surprising based on their needs. They have Dahlin, so you want a more physical right hander.
Between him and Verhoeff in that discussion and maybe they think Rudolph is ready to go next year.
@ChumLine We don’t need to rush him. Sharks still have a season or 2 before they really turn the heat on. Get him in the system and keep him healthy, days off are fine season 1.
@xerxsion@RonoAnalyst Sharks don’t need to compete this year with all that young talent.
Vets will be banging on the door next summer if the team is in the playoff race. This is when 35M of cap space is their friend.
@LEHK0NEN@hellothisisecho You are really overvaluing Eklund. He was given a genuine chance at PP1 and top line with Smith hurt and didn’t play well.
He found a little bit late next to Wennberg but not consistent enough.
Sharks lucked into likely their last top 5 pick for a decade. Take a risk on Sten
@TkachukFanAcc Well they needed to move a forward because they have 14 nhl fowards.
Stenberg perfectly slots in 1st or 2nd line.
Can still make a big move with that 9/27 pick if you want to trade or just grab a D at 9. Anyone at 9 is better than Leddy,
@sjsdrw 1st and 2nd are forwards so you are just worried about 3-8 (6 picks).
Possible options are:
Reid (unlikely)
Carels (unlikely)
Verhoeff
Smits
I could see Chicago, Rangers, or Seattle going fowards, which leaves at least 1 of those 4 Defenders available at 9.
@puckempire Big agree, don’t see how Sharks fans could be upset. Eklund never really lived up to a top 6 winger, he was okay but let’s roll the dice on what is likely our last free top 3 pick for a decade.
Any D we pick at 9 is also an upgrade over Leddy.
