I love your Google is a massive man page analogy! but the point I was making is googling fundamentals like PKI, protocols/port numbers, http codes, regex, packet headers, common cmdlet's...etc is acceptable in a REAL TIME red team engagement.

@GossiTheDog No but with all due respect, a vulnerability was exploited and although not this time, could have been by a terrorist if they had the means and motive to do so. The point is terrorism is undeniably a facet of cyber security.

You tell that to whoever asks you to do that (also ask why they're giving instructions without a clue) then revert to the known to be clean backup.
