“Asylum saves lives. As Haiti said, people who seek protection are only asking for their humanity to be recognized. Nothing more. And just as importantly nothing less. This should be our guiding star.”

"Humanitarian needs are increasing exponentially while funding is at an all time low compared to the needs. That's why we must focus on quality, speed and reach, while collaborating on the optimization of the limited resources we have."
UNHCR's @Ben1Safari speaking at @dihad
Humanitarian aid is on the move 🚚
Despite airstrikes in southern 🇱🇧, UNHCR, UN agencies & @SheildAssoc are delivering relief to hard-to-reach areas in Qlayaa, Marjayoun.
Trucks with blankets, mattresses, kitchen sets &solar lamps were delivered to assist those most in need.
Something we may not think about often is the supply chain behind the sorting and delivery of humanitarian aid every single day.
Today, at this session moderated by my #UNHCR colleague @Ben1Safari, I was inspired by the immense work of supply operations across all humanitarian organizations, but also enlightened with just how much effort partners such as @IHC_UAE @DP_World@Aramex put into reducing carbon emissions. Together with aid organizations, their aim is to ensure a sustainable and efficient humanitarian response across the world.
An average of 1 million fleeing their homes every month. That's what six months of conflict in #Sudan looks like.
But the stat isn't the story.

Pleasure to convene the Supply Chain leadership of WHO, WFP & UNHCR at @UNICEFSupply today to discuss synergies across the supply chain—from procurement to in-country logistics.

@Kanga7577@SAHealth One in ten eligible people in SA are unvaccinated. But, one in three hospitalised people are unvaccinated: if you are not vaccinated you are more than 3X at risk of complications.
Relief convoys continue to arrive in Afghanistan and aid is being distributed.
In my meetings in Kabul I asked the Taliban to ensure the security of humanitarian operations.
Millions of lives are at stake.
"39 million Afghans are left in Afghanistan, and we estimate that at least half of them are in need of humanitarian assistance."
UNHCR chief @FilippoGrandi on the unfolding humanitarian crisis.
UN humanitarian agencies (including UNHCR) as well as NGOs continue to provide lifesaving assistance in Afghanistan: yesterday, we distributed relief items to displaced people in Kunduz.
The humanitarian needs are huge and growing. More international support is urgently needed.
Stop being idiots: If you base decisions on today's cases, #COVIDー19 will be 2-3 weeks ahead of us. There are many more cases without symptoms, which will show up within 2 weeks. Today's decisions may not be adequate for the real caseload. #Forwardthinking!
Some big and welcome news coming out - Congress has now officially signed off on plans to merge @theOFDA and @USAIDFFP into a new unified humanitarian bureau at @USAID. This has several important implications:
