Since WWII, Democrats have outperformed Republicans on the economy. GDP growth averages 4.23% under Dems vs. 2.36% under GOP. Job creation? 1.7% yearly for Dems, 1.0% for Republicans. Also, 9 of the last 10 recessions started under Republican presidents. Data speaks louder than party lines.
Education says teachers need to use differentiation but uses standardized tests to create a cookie cutter student. Districts tell teachers to be innovative and creative but use a standardized eval to create a cookie cutter teacher. It's so frustrating, and now I want a cookie!
Standardized tests have NO place in elementary education. They’re developmentally inappropriate for young children, who are still building essential cognitive skills like problem-solving, abstract thinking, and impulse control. Many also lack the fine motor skills or experience with computers needed for these assessments. These tests are designed for older students or adults and don't align with how young children learn—through exploration, play, and hands-on experiences.
Teaching seems to be the only profession where adults aren’t always treated like adults—like not being trusted to make decisions or micromanaged. I LOVE LEADERS who value teachers' expertise and judgment. Empowering teachers shouldn’t be the exception—it should be the standard.
10 Signs of a positive school culture:
* clear vision not division
* staff input
* people over policies
* communication 2 way street
* trust is key
* collaborate over compete
* support/ encouragement
* strengths maximized
* handle conflict positively
* successes celebrated
If school districts would take time to ask teachers, if you were to think about leaving, what would it take for you to stay. They would quickly find what they need to focus on to improve teachers working conditions.
It’s great for administrators to pop in classes. But maybe they should withhold judgment if they happen to see something that they don’t like. It’s only a snapshot, and they may have missed some brilliance 5 minutes earlier.
Ban evaluations for all tenured teachers unless there is an articulated concern that has been expressed ahead of time. This will make non-evaluative observations so much more authentic. Think about that for a second.
A teacher's evaluation based only on a single formal evaluation is as ineffective as a standardized test for a student, offering only a narrow view of true effectiveness.
Just because some teachers would rather stay in the classroom than go into administration doesn’t mean they aren’t leaders. Many have amazing talents which can benefit a school.Good leaders value them as experts and help maximize their talents and potential.
@DrBradJohnson Education is broken because the people in charge prioritize control and bureaucracy over supporting teachers and students. Instead of empowering educators, they micromanage and enforce unrealistic demands, driving good teachers away and leaving students behind.
Teacher retention: if you want to keep the best teachers, value them like they are the best. Few teachers leave an environment where they feel valued, supported, appreciated, and treated like professionals. This is more important now than ever!

One of the biggest problems in mathematics instruction is a lack of time dedicated to practice. Students need ample time to practice and consolidate understanding. #onted#cdned#edchat
Principals, we don’t need to do a walkthrough or observation every time we go into a classroom.
Sometimes we just need to enjoy spending time in a classroom with the kids, and leave a handwritten note of encouragement for the teacher.
