@malco_barrett I taught a graduate course I inherited called "multivariate regression," but in it they were learning multivariable regression. I wasn't allowed to correct the course name. The bureaucratic costs were too high.
I'm trying to work out a conceptual equation for academic productivity. This is what I have so far: Productivity (P) = Hours Worked (H) + Focus (F) + Intensity (I) + Energy (E) + Relevant Skill Set (S). What am I missing? (aside from the interactions between H, F, I, E, and S.)
@AnandWrites@NPR@MorningEdition Thanks for posting the link. I heard part of it on my commute in, and was impressed with what you had to say. I look forward to reading the book.
@ClaireKampDush@OSUehe @charleswlogan I've been meeting with the fine folks at @CETL_GSU this summer for my online methods class. I'm learning all kinds of fabulous things about active learning strategies!
I've read lots of good critiques of the bootstraps/rising tides metaphors. This one is good because it is so succinct: "You can't pull yourself up by your bootstraps if you have no boots."
This is an interesting post about how long it takes to create a "habit." The old logic was ยต=21 days, but the research behind this post suggests ยต=66 days.

Keep up the activity & enjoy the last of the summer. "People who work out even once a week or for as little as 10 minutes a day tend to be more cheerful than those who never exercise," says says Weiyun Chen, an associate professor at the Univ. of Michigan.

Who would have thought teaching online would produce *so many* student emails? (Probably anyone who had time to give it any thought before volunteering to do it!)
A good article on why the current state of jobs is at least as much a function of social decisions as it is technological advances. Itโs Not Technology Thatโs Disrupting Our Jobs https://t.co/AbqcrsVsTN
If you are 60 years old or older, please consider participating in a research study my friend and colleague @DawnCCarr is conducting with her colleagues about emotion and resilience. https://t.co/vw0OelhIAe
This is great. Getting words on the page is the best way to start writing. But the key is that good writing has to follow the (often necessary) first draft of bad writing.
Bad writing precedes good writing.
Take the pressure off your first draft. Just get words down on the page. Then rewrite and revise. #PhDchat#ECRchat#postdoc#acwri
With limit journal space and strict word counts, it's important to be clear and concise in your writing. Here is a nice resource on "Put[ting] wordy phrases on a diet." https://t.co/RwzYQBfL9T
Congrats to Leanna Greenwood, Ashley Rockwell, Penny Harvey, and Christopher Vidmar on winning the Teaching Social Problems student paper award! #SSSP18#SSSP2018
